Stop by the shelter in Chapel Hill and check out the adorable guinea pigs we have available for adoption! Guinea pigs are often vocal and affectionate - they communicate with a variety of sounds, including wheeking, purring, and chirping. Personally, I love it when they "squeeeeeeeeeee" at me because they are excited to see me ... and they probably think I have food. It's fun to watch them nibble on their vegetables! 😍

"Mia is such a good girl! She did great in the backseat of the car. On the trail, she kept a really good pace, except for when she had to stop and sniff! She is very eager to meet other people and dogs, to the point of forgetting her manners. However, she easily refocuses with some treats and praise. Once you match her energy, she is such a fun dog! We went for a hike/run up a mountain trail. She met a lot of people, and she kept a good pace for the majority of the run, even though it was quite difficult. We took some pictures, stared silently at an unidentified forest creature for five minutes, and then went and got a pup cup from Starbucks as a treat! Mia is so happy to see everyone! She is such a friendly and adventurous dog. (and she didn’t care that we got a little lost!)"

Ramsey needs a permanent home, and her loving foster family sent over these amazing photos and insights to let everyone know how special she is:
"Ramsey is thriving in her foster home and has made remarkable progress in building confidence. When she first arrived three weeks ago, she would run away when we tried to put on her collar. Now, she sits calmly—with great form!—and allows us to put it on with ease.
Initially, we had to lift her into the car, though she would settle quickly once inside. Now, she eagerly runs and jumps in on her own and seems to enjoy the ride. She's also beginning to understand our cats' behavior. We have one confident and one timid cat, and Ramsey shows no aggression toward either—no chasing, just curiosity. Despite her enthusiastic puppy bows, she hasn’t yet convinced them to play with her.
Ramsey has met other dogs and had a fun, playful session with Nala (another young shelter doggo) at the shelter yard. On walks, she’s excited to meet dogs of all kinds and remains non-reactive on leash. She responds well to small training treats and encouragement, especially when other dogs aren’t as receptive to her energy.
She’s grown comfortable with us—allowing baths and even tooth brushing—and she’s a total cuddle bug and excellent nap buddy. Ramsey learns basic commands quickly, and we’ve been exposing her to a variety of environments to help her interact with adults, children, cyclists, runners, and even toddlers in strollers."

Chester is the color of a gorgeous, sandy beach! He's available for adoption and his adventure buddies provided these insights:
"Chester is such a sweet, affectionate, friendly, and energetic dog. He is always happy and loves everyone. We took him for a hike at Carolina North Forest and he totally LOVED it. He is a great outdoor companion and is a very good hiker. We went 3 miles and he was still strong at the end. Afterward we stopped for a pup cup which Chester also loved. He is so cheerful and full of love and affection that I think he would make a great dog for any family, especially if they are able to give him long walks and/or another dog he can play with to burn off energy."

We have many (too many) dogs looking for good homes. There's still time to take advantage of reduced adoption fees (through tomorrow, 8/30) and some of our dogs have even been fully sponsored! Just look at our handsome adoptable boy, Shawndale, on his recent Dog Day Out...
"Shawndale was a perfect Dog Day Out pet. He did amazing in the car and was very excited to eat his pup cup at the end of our hike. He showed no aggression towards other people/dogs on our walk but was very excited to try to meet them. Let’s just say Shawndale will listen to anything you say… if you have a treat in your hand :) I think he would be a great addition to any family and for his age he has a shockingly calm demeanor. We went on an hour long hike and ended the trip with a pup cup from Starbucks!"
