Our team does not typically deal with wild turtles. But, a special situation had us working with the NC State Turtle Rescue team to help this tiny, injured snapping turtle. Check out Officer Holyfield releasing this little critter in hopes he goes on to live a happy snappy turtle life. 😁🐢

Landon was such a sweet boy during his sleepover. 🥰
"I had Landon for a weekend sleepover while my family was out of town. He's a good boy, still basically a puppy. It took him a little while to start feeling comfortable in the house but after a day or so he started to relax more and his playful side emerged, though he still had some nervous energy. Landon will need someone to teach him some basic commands like any young dog, but he is already housebroken at least. He was very friendly toward every person and dog that he met on his walks, but he will also need some leash work because he just wants to make friends with everyone he sees (even the deer). He didn't bark at all and he's not a jumper. Landon seems to naturally enjoy being outside, so a fenced backyard would be a plus for him. He'll be a great dog for somebody."

He has already accepted his space as a member of our family and we love him very much. Echo enjoys cuddling in bed with us and going on walks at the park in his pet stroller. Lovely Lizzie is ready to find her forever family! This sweet girl has been waiting patiently at the shelter for almost two months, and she is so incredibly hungry for love and attention. As you can see in her photos (particularly around her eye), Lizzie has a few spots that our vet team believes are related to allergies. They are currently trying a treatment to help her and they can tell you all about that if you're interested in her. Her future adopters will just need to partner with a full-service veterinarian to keep her feeling her best, which is something we recommend for all pets! Lizzie is absolutely adorable, and any skin issues totally take a backseat to the pure joy and affection she will bring into your home. Come meet her today!

"Rico is an energetic and playful boy that was so excited to be around anybody. He loves to snuggle up with you and give you tons of kisses. He does super well on a leash and was happy to be greeted by strangers on our walk. He always has the biggest smile on his face and would be a loyal companion! We took Rico back to our house and let him sniff around. He got comfortable super quick so we decided to take him on a walk. He doesn’t pull at all on the leash. When he walks he will have bursts of speed and then walk super slow. It was so funny. He made it a whole mile and a half. He took a quick nap when we got back and passed out on our pillows. We played inside for a little and snuggled on the couch until it was time to return him. We couldn’t stop just looking at Rico and admiring his fur and adorable smile. He is super sweet and immediately warmed up to us as soon as he got in the car."

🐾 AMAZING NEWS & AN URGENT REQUEST! 🐾Thanks to a generous grant from the ASPCA, our shelter acquired a much-needed ultrasound machine! 🩺✨This incredible tool will completely transform how we diagnose and treat vulnerable pets right here at our shelter. We will be able to check for internal bleeding, assess emergency injuries, locate masses, and find swallowed objects. To take the next step and perform these ultrasounds effectively and keep animals calm, we urgently need to raise funds for:1️⃣ A dedicated anesthesia machine for safe sedation.2️⃣ A proper, comfortable ultrasound table to use outside of our main surgery room.

Norman is still waiting for his people to find him!
"Norman is the sweetest dog in the world! He is so kind and has a friendly demeanor when meeting strangers. He was very happy on our walk loved to smell all the smells! He did very well on our walk with minimal pulling and did excellent in the car. On our dog day out we walked the pumpkin loop which is about 2.5 miles. Norman did great and had such a fun time! We walked past other walkers, bikers, and runners with little to no reaction from Norman! He mostly would look at them but keep walking. After our walk we went to Starbucks for a pup cup! Norman did excellent in the car and sat in the backseat waiting for his pup cup without trying to climb into the front. My favorite thing about Norman is how kind he is. We met a couple of strangers during our day and he loved getting pets from everyone. He didn’t jump up onto people either he would just sit next to them and let them pet him! Norman is the absolute sweetest and would a great addition to any home!"
