Okandogs IT IS ALL ABOUT CARING. In 2014, my wife, Jan and I, started trying to help Okanogan area dogs. There is no public money available at all to help out.

There are no funded Humane Societies or shelters for Okanogan County dogs. Any effort has to come from the private sector both in terms of money and effort. We have been successful in helping almost 6400 dogs so far. We have done this by rapidly responding to dogs in need and by building confidence and trust. ners who put local area dogs first. The euthanasia rate and overall fatality rate is almost nil. As trust in us grows more people have chosen to follow us and to participate in our cause. We maintain a vet emergency fund to assist injured and ill dogs who have no other resources available. We have a program that provides free stay at home spay for mama dogs when pup litters are entrusted to us. ❤️ We Did Something Incredible Together ❤️

Our Everest fundraiser has officially wrapped, and we are feeling nothing but GRATITUDE. Because of this amazing community, we raised over $48,000 — and with the generous match, that impact becomes nearly $100,000 in lifesaving care for Washington’s rescue dogs.

Every donation, every share, every encouraging message… it all added up to something extraordinary. You showed up with so much heart, and we are humbled by the love you poured into this mission.

We also want to give a special thank‑you to Mark King, whose climb inspired this entire effort. His determination and compassion brought people together from all over, reminding us what’s possible when we push for something bigger than ourselves.

Hannah’s world just shifted, and she needs a soft, understanding place to land ASAP!

Meet Hannah — a brilliant, independent, 9‑year‑old foxhound/bloodhound/shepherd/husky mix. Hannah is 50 lbs, potty trained, friendly with children, dogs, and cats, and wonderfully sweet with strangers.

Her ideal foster home will:
• Appreciate an independent dog who isn’t overly cuddly
• Provide several hours of outdoor time and enrichment
• Have a secure fenced yard (she reacts to wildlife and loves to dig, bark, and patrol)
• Offer structure, routine, and clear boundaries
• Understand she can be stubborn, reactive to outdoor stimuli, and selective about when she listens
• Supervise toys/chews and household items (she has eaten inappropriate objects before)
• Appreciate her “catlike” bonding style
• Not rely on a crate — she is terrified of them

Hannah LOVES:
• Fetch and lure games
• Sniffing and observing outside
• Beanie Babies (her favorite hobby is removing each tiny “beanie” one by one)
• Novelty in her food — she’s picky
• High‑energy dogs who want to play

She struggles with:
• Dogs who don’t want to play (she doesn’t read “no” well)
• Wildlife through windows/screens
• Being asked to obey when she’s focused on something more interesting

🏆Pepper is Proof that Second Chances Change Everything 🏆

Pepper, adopted from Okandogs in August 2021, a little terrier/chihuahua mix, just competed at the 2026 National Agility Championship — and not only did he compete, he earned the title of Top 12” Rescue Dog!

Pepper ran two out of three clean runs at a national-level event, showing the world what rescue dogs are capable of when they’re given love, patience, and a chance to shine. His person calls him her “heart dog,” and it’s easy to see why.

Stories like Pepper’s remind us why rescue matters. Every dog deserves the opportunity to become the very best version of themselves — whether that’s a champion athlete, a couch snuggler, a hiking buddy, or simply a beloved family member.

Congratulations to Pepper and Kris — we’re so proud of you both!

🌿 Olive’s glow‑up is complete — now she just needs a family! 🌿

*Available after June 5th*

This sweet 2‑year‑old terrier mix came to us unsure of the world, but with a little love (and a fresh haircut!), Olive is blossoming into the most tender, affectionate girl.

She’s potty trained, sleeps all night in her kennel, and is learning to enjoy walks. She’s still building confidence, but she tries so hard to be brave — and she melts into her person for comfort.

Olive is wonderful with other dogs, children, and calm cats. She loves treats, gentle hands, and curling up close to the people she trusts.

She’s ready for a patient, loving home that will help her continue to grow. In return, she’ll give you her whole heart. ❤️🐾

And as we push toward the finish line, we’re thinking about Mark King — who gave everything he had on Mount Everest this month to raise awareness and support for rescue dogs. Even when the mountain pushed back, he kept climbing for them. His determination is the reason this fundraiser exists, and the reason we’re this close to our goal.

🏔️ What I Learned on Everest – Mark King Edition

• Spent my 68th birthday in a tent on the South Col with 70 mph winds.
• A dexamethasone shot in the butt at 26,000 ft is… memorable.
• Retiring from extreme mountaineering — gear sale coming soon.
• Learned a new Nepali word: chikne (slippery). Used it a lot.
• Helicopter flights cost a lot. Rescuing dogs costs more‼️
• Met true “conquistadors of the absurd.” Rescue folks fit that description too.
• Lost 50 lbs for this climb. Everest may have taken a few more.
• Spent a night in the Death Zone!
• Follow your Sherpa. They save lives and are the strongest athletes on earth.
• Crossed six‑ladder crevasses four times without falling.
• I may never eat rice again. Bring on the Mexican food and a Cadillac Margarita.

And one more thing:
Climbing Everest is hard.
Saving dogs is harder!
