First show of the year is in the books. We had great weather and a super group of horses and clients with us. Congratulations to my clients for all their success this past weekend. A huge thank you to Danae for all her tireless work and dedication to our team, we couldn’td not do this without your help.
Dark Dance aka Henry owned by Diane Grace, made his showing debut with us and came home 3rd level open Champion and High Point 3rd level.
Lenore owned by Sheila Murdoch, competed successfully at 1-3 and 2-3 getting her first qualifying scores and also came home high point 2nd level open.
Risonho and his owner debuted their new 3rd level freestyle and got their first qualifying score towards regionals.
Pennys Worth aka Nugget owned and ridden by Karen Suit, got some great scores at 1-3 and 2-1 adding a needed score towards their bronze medal. Including a qualifying score towards regionals.
Tinseltown aka Edie owned and ridden by Kim Dunlap had two great 3-3 rides. We were excited to have Kim and Edie join us this summer to show and help them achieve their goals.
Papi Chulo owned and ridden by Carrie Wilson made his showing debut. Despite a little bit of a rocky start schooling on Friday, we turned things around to have two very successful rides in the ring achieving a qualifying score towards regionals.

We use this system on many different horses for many different reasons. Can’t say enough good things about it!!

Training Tip Tuesday. Using ground poles and cavaletti is a an excellent way to help your horse engage their core, lift their backs and add cadence to their steps. Not to mention, it helps the horse to improve proprioception, balance and coordination. It will challenge the brain and the body making training more enjoyable for horse and rider.

In this exercise, we use bending lines to help improve the horse's lateral suppleness. The cavaletti here can be used help the horse lengthen or collect the stride depending on how you would like to challenge your horse.

It is imperative, however, that you position the poles at the appropriate distance for the gait that you will be working to allow the horse to be successful. Larger horses may require longer distances; where as, shorter horse may require a little shorter distance.

Walk poles - approximately 3 feet (3 to 4 heel to toe steps)
Trot poles - approximately 4 feet (4 to 5 heel to toe steps or 1 medium stride)
Canter poles - approximately 10 feet apart

Get creative and think about the movements that are required at your level. Once you have a good idea of what is needed, then you can create pole patterns like this one to help your horse develop the skills to perform at a certain level.
