Update: Great news! Cairo’s owners came in looking for him just after we posted this. He is on his way home.

Do you recognize this handsome boy? If you do, please call us at 781–575–6507. He was picked up on Fairview Road this morning but also seen on Chapman Street.

Unfortunately, we found a deceased cat in the area of 742 Washington street earlier today. If anyone is missing a tabby with a white underbelly, or knows someone who is, please contact us at (781)575-6507.

We’re sharing this update with heavy hearts. Despite our best efforts, we were not able to locate or safely capture the coyote that had a container stuck on his head.

The last reported sighting was on Thursday, 7/31, where he was seen “trotting away” before Animal Control could arrive. Prior to that, he continued to move frequently, making it difficult to track him. Unfortunately, even with trail cameras set in areas he had been, we were never able to catch him on camera.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who helped.

Thank you for calling in sightings. Your reports were vital.

Thank you to those who allowed us to place trail cams on your property.

Thank you to MA Fisheries and Wildlife for your guidance and permission to trap.

Thank you to Erin from Missing Dogs Massachusetts for your expertise, time, equipment, and unwavering support.

Thank you to our fellow ACOs, rehabbers, and to every community member who cared.

We know this outcome is difficult. We’re heartbroken too. This was a tough one.

Coyote with Container on Head – We Need Your Help

Animal Control has received multiple reports of a coyote with a clear container stuck on its head. Our Animal Control Officers are actively trying to locate and help him, but he’s still on the move and is covering a lot of ground.

The coyote is still able to travel significant distances, and sightings have been reported across a wide area. These updates are crucial in helping us track its movements. If you spot the coyote, please do not approach, follow, or attempt to intervene—doing so may cause additional stress or drive it further away from help.

Instead, report any sightings immediately to Canton Animal Control at 781-575-6507. If the animal appears to be staying in one location or is down, and you are unable to reach Animal Control, please contact the Canton Police Department at 781-821-5090, and they will dispatch an Animal Control Officer.

Every call counts. Thank you for being the kind of community that cares. Let’s keep looking out for him together.

(Edited to add a map showing the area where we have had reported sightings and a picture of the coyote that was taken today, 7/28.)

Update 7/29/25 @ 2:35pm - We have not been able to help this coyote yet, but we are still trying. We are working with Mass Wildlife, other ACO's, a rehabber, and our dog heroes at Missing Dogs Massachusetts. Mass Wildlife has given us permission to trap. In the meantime, please keep the reported sightings coming. We have narrowed down the area just a little bit from yesterday. PLEASE DO NOT CHASE HIM. Just call us and give us a location. This is so important. Well-meaning people are pushing him away from help. We will post more information when we have it.

Update 7/31/25 @ 10:35am - This coyote is still on the move and doesn’t seem to have slowed down much. We are desperately trying to help him. Please keep reporting sightings.

This sweet guy was found wandering Oakdale Road earlier today. He’s safe at the shelter now, but if you recognize him or know the owner give us a call at (781)575-6507 so we can get him home.

Huge shoutout to the Sharon Board of Health for organizing a donation drive, and to the Sharon Animal Control Officer for dropping off these generous goodies for our shelter and pet pantry earlier this week! 🐾💙

Since Sharon doesn’t have a municipal shelter of their own, they rely on ours to help care for animals in need — and we’re happy to help our neighbors. Thank you for the support and for thinking of our furry friends! 🐶🐱

Great advice below about young birds. I particularly liked “they are just awkward” - me too.

If all else fails and you need help beyond this, please reach out to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. There’s a link in the comments to a list. When we can, Animal Control is happy to assist. Our ACO’s are not bird rehabilitators but we try to help facilitate transport.

We can’t thank Newhouse Wildlife Rescue —and all the amazing wildlife rehabilitators out there—enough. You give your time, energy, money, and hearts to help animals in need, often without the recognition you deserve. The world is a better place because of people like you. Thank you for everything you do.

She was found beside the road, unable to walk. Observers thought she may have a broken leg. We are thankful for Canton Animal Control, who was able to capture her and make sure she got to us for care. Dr. Vasilakis at Linwood Animal Hospital was kind enough to squeeze us in last minute for a full evaluation. Luckily nothing is broken. She is able to stand, but is struggling to. We are still working on a diagnosis for this young fox kit. Hopefully bloodwork will give us some answers. I’m just thankful she is safe with us now. She would not have lasted long out there like that.

The Free Spay/Neuter Voucher Waitlist is currently closed
for new applications for owned animals.

The Mass Animal Fund was established in 2012 to prevent animal overpopulation by providing spay/neuter resources for local cats and dogs. Since then, our network of municipal ACOs and veterinary partners has helped over 22,400 animals in need. This achievement was made possible by voluntary donations on Line 33f of the MA State Income Tax form, several state budget line items, and various grants.

In 2024/2025, the need for attainable spay/neuter surged and Mass Animal Fund started seeing record numbers of spay/neuter applications from across the Commonwealth. However, our limited funding has not been able to keep up with the growing demand and we have had to make the tough decision to temporarily close our waitlist to new applications for owned animals.

While we continue to provide vouchers for cats and dogs held in municipal animal control shelters, we encourage all owners to explore low-cost resources during this time.

For owners of animals already on the waitlist, we are trying to get to you, but expect extensive wait times. If you find low-cost services for your pet instead, please let us know by contacting [email protected]

6/12/25 - Tank has been adopted!! We’re so happy for him and his fabulous new family

6/11/25 Update - We have received some great applications for Tank. Please be patient as we work through them. We're going to stop taking applications for now. If the perfect home isn't in this batch we'll open it up again. Thank you!

Meet Tank! This sweet guy was found loose in May and never claimed. He’s about 2 years old. He loves walks, back rubs, toys, breakfast, and dinner. If he had his way there would be second breakfast and second dinner every day. He’s had no issues with other dogs while he’s been with us. We haven’t tested him with cats as our resident cat does not enjoy the company of dogs. He has met kids and was well behaved. He is a love bug. Neutered, vaccinated, and waiting for a home to call his own. If you want more information about him please call us at (781)575-6507. If you’d like to submit an adoption application you can find it here…
