🐾 Senior Sweetheart Seeking a Soft Place to Land 🐾

Meet Jake, a handsome pitty mix who was originally adopted from us back in 2018. Due to unfortunate life changes, this sweet boy has found himself back at the shelter at 10.5 years old.

Jake is fully vetted, neutered, and his adoption fee has been WAIVED in hopes of helping him find the loving home he deserves. According to his previous family, he is fully housebroken, a wonderful car rider, and does great with kids and other dogs. Most of all, Jake is incredibly affectionate. He loves cuddling up with his people, soaking up attention, and enjoying the simple things in life.

This gentle boy isn’t looking for adventure he’s looking for a family. A cozy bed, a sunny spot to nap, and someone to love him through his golden years is all he asks for. ❤️

Senior dogs are often overlooked in shelters, but we promise Jake has just as much love to give as any dog here. In many ways, he has even more. He has spent years being a loyal companion and deserves to spend the rest of his life knowing the comfort and security of a forever home.

Meet Banjo, this handsome 2-year-old beagle is fully vetted, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to find his forever family!

Banjo is everything people love about beagles—friendly, affectionate, and always happy to make a new friend. He absolutely loves other dogs, tasty snacks, long walks, and soaking up the sunshine during a good sunbathing session. He walks wonderfully on a leash and is always ready for an adventure, followed by plenty of cuddle time.

Banjo came to us after it became clear he wasn’t exactly cut out for the hunting lifestyle. While some beagles dream of a blue-collar hunting career, Banjo decided he’d much rather have a cozy couch, belly rubs, snacks, and a family to snuggle with. 😂

His brother recently found his forever home, and now it’s Banjo’s turn. This sweet boy is wondering when his perfect family will come along and give him the happy ending he deserves.

If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion with plenty of personality and affection to give, Banjo may be your perfect match! ❤️🐾

This handsome 2-year-old Beagle is searching for a forever family to call his own! ❤️

Harmonica is everything people love about the breed sweet, friendly, and always ready to follow his nose on a new adventure. He absolutely loves every person he meets, has wonderful manners, and gets along great with other dogs.

Harmonica came to us with his brother after it became clear that hunting just wasn’t his thing. While some Beagles are all about the chase, Harmonica would much rather spend his days sniffing around the yard, exploring at his own pace, and then curling up beside his favorite people for cuddles.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a gentle personality and a heart full of love, Harmonica may be the perfect addition to your family!

These are the stories we love so much!

It's so hard to get those sweet seniors placed but there is a marvelously kind and loving couple who have given homes to several of our seniors. We got this email and pictures from them recently and wanted to share!

"We just wanted to let you know how some of your graduates have done.

Our little "Fospice' dog, Peanut (you knew her as nugget - was blind and deaf) had a wonderful life with us. She crossed the rainbow bridge last winter but brought joy and love to our home during her time here. She was such a sweet little girl. I see her pic your website and it makes me smile.

Penny (Talullah the lemon beagle) and Alli (the border collie mix) are both doing welll and spoiled as ever. Penny had had a mass that was removed and an infection that required debridement. Following this, she has been unstoppable. She insists on daily walks (with a car ride to destination walk) and loves to cuddle w the other dogs and us.

Alli has had some anxiety but is making great progress. She is starting to enjoy having a pack and is always down for a walk or just cuddleing on the balcony.

Our happy girl Sadie is still with us.
She had a family that was going to adopt her but they didn’t show up, so here she sits as our longest term dog here. Sadie is a young girl, around 2yrs old, that loves everyone she meets! She is spayed, fully vaccinated and ready to find her forever family. She has energy for days and as you can see in her video and she can’t get close enough and would love a family that would spoil her with lots of cuddles, belly rubs and toys! She does love other dogs but plays rough and can resource guard her toys, so if you have another dog in the house we would highly recommend a meet n greet at our shelter. Due to her high energy probably no small kids. She is very treat motivated and catches onto training quickly! Her former family says she does get excited around cats, but does well with them!

This velvet hippo would love to meet you! We are open today, Thursday- Friday 12-5 and Saturday 12-4. Come and meet this sweet silly girl! And share her story to help her find her forever home!

🐾 Look who stopped by Barking Basement today! 🐾

This handsome guy is Amigo, who was adopted from the Yancey Humane Society just a few months ago. ❤️

Nothing makes us happier than seeing former shelter pets thriving in their forever homes, and Amigo was all smiles during his visit with his hooman today! Seeing happy adoption stories come full circle is a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do.

Thank you to Amigo’s family for giving him the loving home he deserves—and for stopping by to say hello! 🐶
