At Papercraft Miracles, handmade paper is our jam, and we love every opportunity we have to make magical sheets of paper. Plain old recycled paper is just the beginning. We've done handmade paper for all projects from notebooks, to baby shower invitations.
Much like our books, handmade paper is also a functional art for all your creative and everyday needs, on top of that's its sustainable too!

We use post-consumer paper and natural fibers to create our one of kind sheets, our process is 100% handmade at every step, from shredding the paper, to pressing them in our press. And you can learn how to do it with us at one of our workshops!

Our next paper making workshop is on Sat Aug 24th, and you get more info on our events page on our website!

Can't make it to that one? No problem, did you know that we offer Private parties and Home school workshops? We do! and you can book with us for your preferred dates, reach out to us at anytime and we'll help you plan your own private session.

Part 2 of our series: Custom books.

When I first started Papercraft Miracles, I mainly made custom handbound books, and I started making them from a desk in the corner of my dorm room as a junior in college. I made guestbooks for my friends when they got married. I made sketchbooks for my artist friends. I made journals for my poet friends. But they weren't just books. They were made from their stories.

The first guestbook I made had a pressed leaf from the Japanese maple tree where my friend's dad's ashes were buried, built into the cover, so part of him was sure to be there at the wedding.

I made a travel journal for a friend who took a trip to discover his heritage on a trip to Ireland...that had 4 leaf clovers attached to the pages, that I hunted for in the grass for hours.

I made a sign-in book for my college store with paper I made using red clay mud from under my dorm that burned down--a book made from the history of the literal foundations of the school.

I got my start making art that told stories and I've never stopped doing it. In our ever increasingly digital world, we don't have as many opportunities to sit around the fire and connect by sharing our stories. Creating tangible, purposeful and useful art that incorporates the meaningful details of our histories in ways that make it easy, beautiful and fun to share with others is our way of bring us all back around the campfire.

We’re starting a new series to highlight each of our different art medium specialties and this is the first post of the series!

When we make a custom book, we make more than a functional piece of art. We intentionally craft moments that bring people together in connection, communication and celebration.

Over the years our studio has had the honor of making books for hundreds of special occasions and here are just a few of our favorites. Not many people would consider a book as more than a just a book, but our specialty is going above and beyond to truly incorporate all the special details from your story into the books we make for you.

There are endless ways that bookbinding brings things together. When you widen your view on what is considered a book and see beyond the paper and thread, there's room for that creative spark.

Our handmade books are meant to add a little bit of magic to your project, that means for everything from a commemorative guest book for your wedding or loved ones memorial service. We can bind your new baby cards into a book. Or a custom left-handed sketchbook, complete with pen holders and pockets. We can make a hand bound scrapbook for you and your best friend, and if you're really lucky, your guest book for your anniversary party will end up shaped like a taco.

We love being part of so many special moments and creating magical gift giving experiences that are truly unforgettable. Because when the moment matters, the gift should too.

I was having a conversation today with my friend and fellow badass entrepreneur, Sara Heidinger, and we got on the topic of balance. We both agreed that balance in life doesn’t really exist…not the way we’re sold it anyway. Especially for women. We’re told that we SHOULD have “work/life balance” but really that’s just another thing to add vs to our over stuffed list of “shoulds”.

When in reality, some days, weeks, months, or even years, you focus on work, some you focus on family and some you focus on other people. Eventually there are some times you focus on yourself and those are almost always the most necessary, productive, restful and healing.

But the myth that you’ll ever have a perfect and equal amount of time on each aspect of your life is just another unrealistic expectation on you.

I liken it to tree pose in yoga. Sometimes you’re on the perfect mat on the perfect floor and in the perfect yoga pants where your foot doesn’t slide down over your knee and you had enough food and water to feel focused and stable and cleared your mind enough to find your drishti (your focal point) and you can stand in tree pose for several minutes without a single wobble. But not very often.

Most of the time you’re lucky enough to get one of those conditions at a time and there are always some wobbles, some checks to the balance, things that pull your focus elsewhere.

Is my point to not even try, cause you’ll always be out of balance? Not in the slightest. My point is that it’s easiest to find balance when you’re present and fully focused on one thing at a time. Trying to be an open and present mother while writing a social media post is not the most effective way to do either thing…but sometimes it’s necessary to wobble. Sometimes you’ve gotta set your other foot down, reposition your stance, take a breath and try again.

Balance isn’t something that happens all at once. It’s resetting your stance, changing your drishti…starting over again and again without fear. It’s knowing it’s always going to tip sooner or later and being ready to catch yourself.

It’s like Ani DiFranco says, “Buildings and bridges were made to bend in the wind. To withstand the world that’s what it takes.” And I’m sharing this picture because I wasn’t on the perfect mat in the perfect clothes, but for one brief moment, I was balanced with my foot on my knee, in jeans on a skinny bench, three feet off the ground…and I still managed to smile at the camera.
