The lack of healthy foods in what have been called “urban food deserts” is well documented. Just as Jesus’ first followers looked at the hungry

masses and humbly offered five loaves of bread and two fish to feed them, we too respond with compassion by bringing our five city lots and two community gardens to feed the hungry. Our spiritual convictions, along with our neighborhood’s vacant land and eager youth, provide the fertile soil needed for this initiative to grow to meet the need.

5 Loaves Farm... ..plants gardens and creates green houses to grow healthy foods...is committed to making healthy foods available and affordable to our neighbors by offering a CSA and seeking to partner with local markets and school lunch programs...donates a portion of its produce to local soup kitchens...is committed to using sustainable growing practices...provides educational programs for adults and school groups..has internship opportunities available for neighborhood youth throughout the year.

After we’ve filled our mugs and plates,
we’ll head out for guided caroling through the neighborhood to spread a little holiday cheer.

Our current syrup line-up: old favorites (basil and hibiscus simple syrup) and a new addition, Elderberry Honey Immune Support. This new addition is based on a traditional oxymel recipe. Oxymels are one of the earliest kitchen medicines—herbs steeped in honey and vinegar to create a syrup that’s both flavorful and functional. They’ve long been used to support immunity and soothe seasonal ailments. And the best part? This batch is made with honey and elderberries harvested right from our farm—small-batch, farmgrown goodness in every drop.

We'll have all 3 syrups available at our winter market this weekend! Stop by for festivities and more local artisan goods 🧡

Join us at the farmhouse on Friday, 11/21 (5–7:30pm) and Saturday, 11/22 (9am–12pm) for a cozy, festive time — complete with fresh baked desserts from the farm and a beautiful selection of local, handmade goods.

You’ll find farm-made jams, teas, spices, and honey, plus pottery & cards from Sycamore Hill Studios, dried flower art by Nickel City Floral, and crochet creations by 12-year-old entrepreneur Eviena.

For 5 Loaves Farm goods, you can browse and pre-order your favorites ahead of time, or just shop when you arrive!

We’ve got 5 hives at the farm this season, and they’ve been busy. 🐝

Our volunteer beekeeper, Kayla, walked us through the honey harvest — from pulling the capped frames to uncapping, spinning, and straining. It’s slow, sticky work, but worth every bit of it.

The bees do the hard part; we just help get their work into jars.

You can get a taste of this year’s honey 🍯 at our upcoming Winter Market November 21st and 22nd— local, raw, and made right here on the farm.

During the off-season, we turn the abundance of our harvest into something special. 🍓Berries tucked away in the freezer become sweet jams.🌿Herbs hung to dry transform into teas and salt blends.

We get creative with every ingredient we grow — and in November, we get to share it all with you 🧡

What a night! 🌾 🧡 Celebrate the Harvest was everything we hoped it would be—a true gathering of neighbors, friends, and family, all coming together to enjoy the fruits of this season and the work of many hands. From delicious foods made by our community, to music, laughter, raffle baskets, and the simple joy of being together on the farm—we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening.

We’re so grateful for each of you who came out to share in the bounty, support our youth internship program, and help us keep growing food right here in the heart of the neighborhood. This celebration is only possible because of the community that surrounds us—and we feel deeply blessed. 🌱 🧡

This Friday, September 26th (5:00–7:30 pm), we’re turning our farm into a street food festival! Enjoy live music, lawn games, raffle baskets, and a delicious spread of foods made by friends and neighbors of the farm—like jerk chicken, pastelitos, hand pies, pumpkin spice donuts and more!

🌱 All proceeds support 5 Loaves Farm’s youth internship program and our mission to grow hyperlocal, no-spray produce for Buffalo’s West Side—including over 1,500 pounds each year provided to our neighborhood food pantry, Provisions 139. Through this work, our interns not only gain a paycheck and job experience – they become stewards of their community and ambassadors for a healthier, more connected future. 🧡

In a world where youth are too often overlooked, this program says: You matter. You belong. You are enough. ✨

That’s what Celebrate the Harvest is all about: gathering our neighbors for a festival of togetherness and raising funds that sustain this program while enjoying the gifts of the season. 🍂

Come eat, play, and celebrate the season with us—while supporting youth, food access, and the thriving community we’re growing together. 🌻
