Paco is a Keen Kitty tiered member of The High Society Club & gets his Cat's Pajamas Service every 6 weeks because he's a fluffy boy who doesn't like to groom himself.

Yes! Believe it or not, there are lots of younger kitties out there who have unruly hair that they are unable to keep PURRoPURRly coiffed on their own; it's not just the elderly ones.

So he regularly gets his nails trimmed, combed, de-shed, bathed, & blow dried to make sure he's not only mat-FURee, but also has healthy skin.

He used to alternate between the Cat's Pajamas & BOOS (Brush Out Only Service) every 6 weeks but his PAWrents found that he was still getting matted in between.

That's because, while combing is imPURRtant, it was only detangling 2 hair cycles of growth so that at each full groom, there were still 2 more hair cycles to comb through.

So now his apPAWntments take a little less time & his coat & skin have never been healthier!

Happy !

๐Ÿคฉ I absolutely love the shine that comes out of Coco's natural coat after her Cutie Patootie service!

Labradors are super shedders because they have double coats. ๐Ÿคฏ

Many of their PAWrents don't realize that because of the short length of their hair & often associate double coats with longer-haired dogs.

But there are actually over 15 difFURent coat types, including many kinds of double coats.

The proPURR care for her's is to FURSt card (rake/de-shed) all the dry, broken, & dead undercoat. I begin this with a gentle blow out to avoid any unnecessary brushing on her skin & to save my arms from the repetitive motion as well.

Then Coco gets a 20 minute deep conditioning to add nutrients back into her dry skin. This also closes the hair follicles so that the rest of the loose hair can escape.

Once all that bulk has been removed, then it's easier to get a really good clean with a 10 minute shampoo treatment.

This is followed up with a second 10 minute conditioning treatment to add oils back into the skin that shampoo gently removes during the cleaning PURRocess & to seal moisture back into her skin & coat, which also helps prevent irritation.

Finished with a gentle blow dry, any remaining loose hairs come out here, rather than on your floor 3 days later (sound familiar?).

She gets a Green Caviar Luminescent finishing spray to lock in the gorgeous shine at the end.

Who doesn't love that deep, shiny chocolate ganash brown (instead of that dry, pale, stale chocolate bar color when their coat is dry)?

๐Ÿ’… I got my nails done yesterday because I had the privilege of teaching my Pet PAWrent Canine Care Class at Premier Dog Sports in collaboration with Lancaster Community Education & I wanted to put myself together.

๐Ÿ“ข So here's a shoutout to another local Lancaster-based small business that recently opened:

๐Ÿถ Their team did an amazing job putting my demo dog guest of honor, Stevie, on my hand! They even got her markings right!

๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ & I definitely needed that surprise complimentary mini shoulder/forearm/wrist/hand massage! What icing on the cake to make a great experience above & beyond!

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป I will definitely be getting my nails done therefrom here on out!

๐Ÿ˜ƒ Thank you to everyone who came out & for all of your amazing questions!

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Teaching/speaking/educating is a PAWSsion of mine & I'm so lucky that I get to do that for groomers all over the world when I'm not out grooming your fur babies locally.

โ‰๏ธ I was asked if I was planning any more pet PAWrent classes, & I really wasn't, but am absolutely game to do so, so let me know what other grooming-related topics you'd be interested in learning & I'll see what I can do!

๐ŸŽ‰ Also, big shoutout to Gabriel & his mom for letting me borrow him. This gorgeous AKC Grand Champion was a superstar for demonstrations!

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Thank you to Lancaster Schools for working with me to make this happen & are huge thank you to fellow member, Premier Dog Sports for being such an incredible host! Shelly & team made this a seamlessly PURRfect event!

๐Ÿคฉ Bailee already looked good, but there were a few little tweaks I made to help make him just that little extra cute.

Contrary to popular grooming beliefs:

Many senior grooms should take longer, rather than be faster.

Lots of groomers call quick, in & out grooms "comFURt grooms".

Here's why I disagree:

๐Ÿพ Seniors move slower due to physical discomFURt, so to avoid injury, they should be moved slower. (You wouldn't quickly move & jostle a slow-walking senior hooman around, would you?)

๐Ÿพ Their joints & muscles can strain more easily, so careful PAWSitioning & movement is needed to avoid injury.

๐Ÿพ Their breathing patterns can change quickly with stress so we want to make sure we're extra attentive to make adjustments as necessary to keep them comFURtable & stressors low.

๐Ÿพ Breaks may be necessary & we have to go at their pace, not at our homman clock because they take longer to de-stress than we do.

๐Ÿพ Faster movements & the energy that goes with them can increase their stress levels & increased stress can activate underlying health issues (this is where you hear of pets PAWSsing away a few days after grooming - it's not the groomer's fault, but rushing certainly doesn't help; it takes 3-4 days for cortisol to leave a dog's body).

Naturally, no groomer wants an emergency or life/death situation on their hands, so many take the fast approach to minimize the time the fur baby is in their care. There are situations where that is necessary, but on the whole most of the time, taking the slower approach is the best option.

That's why Club Pawsh charges by the hour: every fur baby is unique & our number 1 priority is theirniverall wellbeing.

Let's understand Jane's emotional journey through her FURSt ever PURRfessional grooming apPAWntment.

In this FURSt photo (her "After" photo), she is relaxed & happy. Her eyes & mouth are loose & her ears are PURRked up a little with interest & engagement.

But look how she started. The second photo was taken at her check-in. Tight mouth, stiff body language, eyes more narrowed & piercing, stiff tail wag of uncertainty.

The third photo after she finished getting carded shows her still uncomFURtable. Tail wagging with nervousness because her ears are down, mouth still tight, & eyes drawn in moree of a concerned manner.

The fourth photo of her in the bath LOOKS like she's happy, but she was just starting to get a little more comFURtable, yet still panting a little from stress. Her eyes & ears are a little more relaxed & she laid down on her own. This photo was taken during her deep conditioning PURRocess after she got to relax for several minutes & have a break from the whole ordeal. So, really, this is showing her coming down from her anxiety.

Finally, this adorable photo of her getting ready to be dried. By this time, she was much more relaxed, but the Happy Hoodie added a new element of concern. Her mouth & eyes are squinted, yes, from the hoodie, but also in a "what the heck?" manner.

In order to make sure her session ended on a happy note to get the pleasant-looking girl you see in the FURSt photo, I kept the blow dryer on a lower setting, while treating & giving her lots of pets & verbal encouragement, helping it to not be as scary. When that was done, the praise & pets continued to help rebuild her confidence.

I kept her mom in the loop the whole time, being honest with her about Jane's unease as well as her relaxing. Without this transparency, many PAWrents often are left thinking their fur baby was "fine" & needs are never addressed.

Jane's mom was given some homework to help her feel better & more confident for her next apPAWntment, totally TAILored to her unique needs & reservations.

๐Ÿ˜ณ I can't believe I wasn't putting bows in Paige's hair this while time!

๐Ÿ˜ Now, her mom is equally obsessed with them.

๐Ÿ† For context, Paige is a year & a half old AKC ConFURmation Champion.

๐Ÿค” Being 1/2 of her groom team, I presumed her handler wouldn't want me to do anything that might kink or tear her hair.

โ“๏ธ So this last time, I knew she had a break between competitions & showings, so I asked if I could (previously I had just been giving her collar bows).

๐Ÿคฉ Now her mom is hooked!

๐ŸŽ€ I was at her house a couple days ago to care for Paige's brother & her mom asked if she could have another bow since one came out.

๐Ÿ˜ I was so delighted, I gave her extras!

๐Ÿ’• It's the little things we do that often have the big imPAWcts.

โœจ๏ธ It's that little extra jรปs that someone might not be able to quite put their finger on, but they know you did something a little extra & special.

๐Ÿช„ That's what is all about at Club Pawsh!

๐Ÿช” (Hint: another extra special jรปs Paige gets: Black Passion Argan Oil Treatment to enhance her shine while protecting her hair. Ask about it for your fur baby's next apPAWntment.)
