Lions, often called the “king of the jungle,” have earned their title through their strength, presence, and importance in the wild. As one of the world’s most iconic big cats, they help keep ecosystems in balance. Sadly, these majestic animals are increasingly at risk, facing serious threats such as habitat loss and poaching.

Today we are celebrating our two lions–Cypress & Magnolia–and their role as ambassadors for their species. Stop by their habitat on your next visit to learn more about what makes lions so special and to meet them face to face through the glass window.

Eurasian eagle-owls are one of the largest and most powerful owls in the world, with some standout traits.
🪽 They can have wingspans over 6 feet and weigh up to 10 pounds.
🟠 They also have striking orange eyes, which give them excellent low-light vision and an intense, unforgettable look.
🦉 They are also very versatile hunters, taking down prey as small as insects or as large as foxes, thanks to powerful talons and silent flight.

Say hello to Douglas and Elizabeth next time you visit Zoosiana. Stick around their exhibit to see them take flight!

Eye see you 👁️ Did you know that an adult male’s eyeball can be about the size of a racquet ball? But when you consider how big giraffes are overall, their eyes are proportionate to their head. Although giraffes have great senses of smell and hearing, they rely on their excellent eyesight to see long distances.

As National Zookeeper Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible team of zookeepers at Zoosiana. 🐾💚 Their passion, dedication, and daily care make it an amazing world for the animals who call our zoo home.

But behind every clean habitat, every well-fed animal, and every educational moment, there’s an entire team working together to make it all possible. From guest services and maintenance to the attractions crew to the animal care team — every role plays a vital part in creating a safe, fun, and enriching experience for both animals and guests.

It truly takes a pack to make the zoo a place of adventure and fun. To every member of our Zoosiana team — thank you for the heart and hustle you bring each and every day. 🐒🦒🦓
