How to Check Your Pet for Dehydration at Home 💧
- We demonstrate how to check if your pet is dehydrated using the skin tent test on a pit bull named Sage. We explain that lifting the skin between the shoulder blades and seeing it snap back quickly indicates good hydration, while slow sagging suggests dehydration. We also mention other signs like not eating, drinking, vomiting, diarrhea, or lack of urination, and note that underlying issues like kidney problems, thyroid issues, or diabetes can cause dehydration. We advise contacting a veterinarian if you notice a positive skin tent test.

The Importance of the Leptospirosis Vaccine for Your Pets.
- We talk about leptospirosis, a bacterial disease spread by rodents and other wildlife, and why it’s becoming more common. We explain that the bacteria is found in animal urine and can cause liver and kidney failure in pets. We emphasize that the vaccine is now considered core in New York and is the only prevention method, as there is no preventative like heartworm or flea and tick medication. We also highlight that leptospirosis is zoonotic, meaning it can spread from pets to humans, making vaccination crucial for both pet and family health.
