Love brings together people - and pets, who may find getting along trickier. If you’re moving into a new home for everyone, try to bring all animals home at the same time, and introduce them while it is still neutral territory.

Get your cat used to the carrier by leaving it out and letting him or her explore. The more your cat is used to seeing in -- or even napping in -- his or her carrier, the easier it will be to get him or her loaded up to take to the vet.

Veterinarians across the world agree that regular vaccinations are a must for all pets. In fact, having your pet vaccinated regularly can even save his or her life. Vaccinations can help keep your pet from acquiring diseases like distemper, rabies, canine hepatitis, and even feline leukemia in cats.

Cats are notorious for being poor travelers and vet patients. For the least stressful experience, choose a carrier that has hard sides and can open at both the top and the front. Often, the vet will be able to perform an exam on an anxious kitty while it's still in the bottom of the carrier.

Have you noticed that your older dog seems stiff when it wakes up in the morning or after laying down for a long time? Older dogs, and even cats, can suffer from arthritis in the back, hips, shoulders, ankles, wrists, or knees. There are many successful treatments available for this, so talk to your vet if you think there is a problem.

Are you concerned by how frequently your pet seems to be throwing up? Remember to evaluate their play habits before sounding the alarm. If they’re rough-housing within a half hour of a meal, correcting that could solve the issue.

Believe it or not, your pet’s dental health is as important as yours or any member of your family. However, proper cleaning is another matter. For some pets (like cats), veterinary assistance may be needed.

Diet and nutrition are critical to pet health, and one of the best ways to establish a sound diet for your pet is to consult a veterinarian. Your veterinarian can tell you what type of pet food will best serve your pet's own healthcare needs and even offer advice on the right snacks and chew toys.

Do you ever worry that your older pet’s sudden lethargy may be a sign of an underlying illness? While older pets aren’t typically as active as they were as babies, you may want to schedule more frequent exams to ensure they haven’t developed a health condition.

Did you know that pets need far fewer calories than you might think? This is important to understand, as overfeeding is the leading cause of obesity. A small, inactive dog needs as few as 185 to 370 calories per day.
