Rescuing and restoring horses in need. Dedicated to second chances, healing, and hope. 🫶 Welcome to Nalani Horse Rescue!

Our mission is to provide care and rehabilitation to horses who have suffered abuse, trauma and neglect, bring awareness to the plight of unwanted horses as well as provide education on proper horse care. Horses that are neglected and abused end up in the slaughter pipeline through absolutely no fault of their own—Nalani Horse Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to changing the outcome for these needy horses.

Horses are highly intelligent and very sensitive animals. When they have endured trauma or neglect—the damage to them is profound and exceeds physical damage. It is often accompanied by emotional and psychological damage. Nalani Horse Rescue takes a multi-step approach to their care. First, we heal them physically and then we slowly and steadily work with them to earn their trust and heal their trauma emotionally and psychologically. Our safe, peaceful, and tranquil environment fosters healing on many levels.

Nalani Horse Rescue recognizes that every horse is an individual. Each horse we rescue is treated with a customized plan for their recovery based on their specific individual unique needs and challenges. Recovery and building trust take time and slow, steady steps. We invest the time each horse needs to move toward their healing.

What an incredible day for Hike for Horses! ❤️🐴

Beautiful weather, wonderful people, and so many special moments shared with the horses who make Nalani Horse Rescue so extraordinary.

One of the sweetest parts of the day was watching some of our typically shy horses come out of their shells, meet new faces, and soak up all the extra love and attention. Moments like those remind us just how far these horses have come.

None of this would be possible without Cherry Tapley and the incredible volunteers who have helped her create such a special place. A place where horses find second chances, trust is built, and healing happens on both ends of the lead rope ❤️

To everyone who came out, walked the beautiful trails of Alanwood Farm ,spent time with the horses, and supported Nalani, thank you for making this day so memorable!

And just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better… the horses decided to put on a little show of their own! 👀🐴

I know this photo isn’t much, but this is what I have to go on. Two mares. They spent their lives pulling a buggy and having babies. They are very underweight, covered in rain rot and scabs. They’re scared…and they were separated from their babies THREE DAYS AGO. When I saw this photo, I immediately said “Yes, I’ll take one”, but then my heart sank. How could I leave the other one behind?!

They’ve spent their lives being treated like machines. And now that they’re older and no longer useful, they need somewhere to go.

That somewhere is going to be Nalani.

But getting them here is just the beginning. I know things are tight right now. I really do. That’s why I’ve only asked for help once or twice this year, and I never take it lightly when I do.

But I feel this one in my soul.

These two girls deserve a soft landing. They have worked hard enough. They have given enough. Now it’s their turn to be cared for.

If you’d like to help us give them that soft landing, every donation will go toward getting them healthy and giving them a future they have earned.

And we’re going to need some names.

Spring is here! Our next Paddock Pals experience is March 22nd from 10:30–12:00, and we’d love to have you join us.

Nalani Paddock Pals is a small, hands-on experience where you’ll spend time with the horses, hear some of their rescue stories, and learn about the care that helps them heal and thrive.

You’ll get the chance to meet members of the herd, learn basic horse care, and experience the calm connection that makes time with horses so special.

A $100 donation per participant supports the daily care of our rescue horses and helps Nalani continue saving horses in need.

✨ No horse experience needed

Looking for a Loving Home for Sweet Pansy. 🌸

Nalani Horse Rescue is helping a local family rehome a very special, well-loved mare.

Meet Pansy, a 22-year-old Quarter Horse, standing about 14.3 hands. She is an exceptionally trustworthy and eager-to-please trail partner. Pansy crosses creeks, roads, bridges, and steps over logs without hesitation. She responds beautifully to voice cues—walk, whoa, a cluck for trot, and a kiss for canter.

But her heart is truly her best feature. Pansy is gentle, affectionate, and loves being with her person. She’ll happily stay by your side while you do chores, even when the other horses have wandered off. She adores being brushed and doted on, and she has the sweetest, softest presence.

We’re looking for a home where Pansy can enjoy occasional light trail rides or simply live out her days in a peaceful retirement, surrounded by love, care, and kind people.

Introducing Buckshot. 🥰

This adorable 26-year-old Quarter Horse buckskin gelding has lived a full and purposeful life. In his younger years, he was a talented barrel racer, and for the past decade, he’s been a brave and willing trail companion. These days, he enjoys a lighter pace — a quiet walk on the trail or simply keeping another horse company in the pasture.

Buckshot stands 15.1 hands, is barefoot, up to date on everything, and has been deeply loved and well cared for. His family’s circumstances have changed, and with heavy hearts, they’ve made the difficult decision to find him a new home.

Nalani Horse Rescue is helping to ensure this sweet soul finds the safe, loving place he deserves to spend his golden years — surrounded by kindness, good care, and maybe a few treats.

Meet Thunder! This handsome 13-year-old Tennessee Walker has been a loyal partner and trail companion.

Thunder’s family loves him deeply, but life circumstances have changed, and they’ve made the difficult decision to find him a new home. Nalani Horse Rescue is helping to make sure he lands safely in a place where he’ll continue to be cherished.

He’s a seasoned trail horse, standing 15.3 hands, responds to verbal cues, loads and unloads with ease, is barefoot, and is up to date on everything. He’s got more “go” than “whoa,” making him a great fit for someone who enjoys an energetic ride and exploring new places together.
