is a private, not for profit organization that has sole discretion of what may or may not be posted on its social media. Content may be scrutinized for appropriateness and truthfulness as well as relevance to the Humane Society’s purpose or marketing objectives of promoting the organization’s adoptable animals, activities of the shelter and educational segments HSEC deems of importance. Hundreds o

f groups and individuals may request to cross post information. However, the Humane Society cannot accommodate all such requests. Lost and Found Animals - Relevant to finders of lost animals, Elkhart County’s ordinance requires that all lost and found animals are to be reported to the Humane Society by the finder and they are to speak to the Humane Society staff in order to provide necessary information. A social media post or message to HSEC by itself is not acceptable. All are requested to contact the shelter in order to gather more specific and pertinent information. They may also be directed to other relevant social media sites that offer pet lost and found report functions as their specific media purpose. Reporting Suspected Abuse and Neglect
Messages or social media posts alone may not be used to pursue reports of abuse or neglect. Contact the Humane Society or local law enforcement to ensure necessary investigation. Potential Banning of Individuals/Groups Posting or Messaging - Individuals who may display profanity, misinformation, malicious gossip, hearsay, fail to repeatedly follow directions or information provided to them in response to their previous posts or messages or who consistently post information that does not fall into the realm of the Humane Society’s designated objectives may be banned from posting any information on HSEC social media. Confidentiality - Information regarding animals that may be at the shelter will not be released due to the confidentiality of the owner, animal situation or possible ongoing investigations. Books AND cats?! Yeah, we think this is a pretty great way to spend a Saturday. 😻

Join us at the Elkhart Public Library Downtown location for a special Caturday Cat Adoption Event! We'll be bringing along some of our adoptable cats who are very ready to trade shelter life for sunny windows, cozy couches and families of their own. ❤️

🐾 Adoption fees are just $15, cash only!

The library will also be collecting cat food donations for HSEC during the event! Our kitties could especially use:

It's been HOT out there!

When the temperatures soar, long walks and hours of outdoor play just aren't safe for our pets. But that doesn't mean they have to spend the day bored!

113 days. 💔

That’s how long Rudy has been waiting at HSEC.

Rudy arrived on May 11, and somehow, this very good boy is still here more than three months later.

At 8 years old and about 71 pounds, Rudy isn’t looking for anything complicated. He’s a sweet senior guy who deserves a comfortable home, a person to love and a place where he can finally settle in and stay.

Rudy does have a few things his future family should know. He needs to be the only dog in the home, and stairs can be difficult for him — his front feet sometimes buckle, so a home where he doesn’t have to navigate a bunch of steps would be ideal.

But Rudy is so much more than those little considerations.

He’s a good boy. A really, really good boy. ❤️

And after 113 days of watching people walk through the shelter, choose their new best friends and head home without him, we would really love for it to finally be Rudy’s turn.

Our tiniest residents have some BIG needs! 🐱💙

Right now, we’re especially in need of puppy pads and pet warming discs for the kittens in our care. While “puppy” may be in the name, those pads come in very handy for keeping kitten spaces clean and comfortable — and the warming discs help keep little ones cozy and safe when they need some extra warmth. 🥹🐾

🐾❤️ ALUMNI UPDATE! ❤️🐾

It's been a little over a month since Coconut and Pond left HSEC for their new home — but these days, they go by the much more magical names Bellatrix LeStrange and Lucius Malfoy. 🪄🐱

And according to their adopter, Lisa, these two are absolutely loving life together!

"They've bonded like a brother and sister and love lap snuggles and sleeping together and playing. So grateful we adopted them!" ❤️

We LOVE seeing two HSEC alumni not only find a wonderful home, but find a best friend in each other, too. 🥹

Happy tails, Bellatrix and Lucius! We hope your days are filled with plenty of snuggles, playtime and just the right amount of mischief. 🐾❤️
