We are very excited to be celebrating Timothy’s 5 year anniversary with us. Several of these years we had to share him with the University of Georgia, but were always excited to have him join us for the summer. We are spoiled having him full time. He is solid as a rock as an employee. He is smart, funny, and great with our patients. We have learned to rely on his steadfastness and dedication to his work. When he heads off to vet school, we are sure gonna miss him. Happy 5th Anniversary Timothy!!

While all of this looks like it could be from Star Trek, these machines are the newest members of our team. These hard working little guys help us run bloodwork faster, count parasite eggs more accurately, analyze urine contents and a multitude of other things. We can even use them to send certain kinds of samples to specialists for review. Now that I am thinking about it, it is kind of mind blowing! But, the best part is that we can provide you with better information about your pet. How thrilling!

Gross, but true. This is what an adult heartworm looks like. They leave permanent holes in the dog or cat’s heart. We strongly recommend heartworm prevention to stop these nasty beasts from moving in to your pet’s heart.

Mosquitoes transmit heartworms. An adult heartworm can grow to be about a foot long. Heartworms create permanent holes in the walls of the heart, which if left untreated can lead to death. We recommend yearly testing and prevention because we live in an environment where there are plenty of mosquitoes!

And, the results are in… WHEW!! This is not a contest we want to win. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes. Did you know there are 22 different mosquito species in the U.S.A that carry heartworms. They are active at different times of the day and year. SCARY STUFF! This means heartworm “season” is year round. Heartworms can be easily prevented. Give us a call, we can help.

On Easter Sunday, we lost the sweetest member of our team one month before she turned 19. The fuzzy bed in my office is empty for the first time since she moved in with us after having a major medical emergency almost 6 years ago. Cupcake instantly became the joy of all our days. She had the ability to get along with everyone and every pet. Her own joys were simple. The first was getting to spend her day lounging in her fluffy bed. The look on her face when she ran “away” from the team to escape upfront to her bed was one of pure joy. The second was demanding her cheerios from Candice every morning. She would shriek until she got them, which of course would get them delivered faster. We are going to miss the delight of watching one little dog thoroughly enjoy her retirement. But, we do recommend learning something from Cupcake. Every now and then, remember to lounge in a comfortable spot and eat an enjoyable treat. Savor the moment. Those kinds of moments never last long enough.
