❄️ Cold weather is coming — is your herd ready?
With snow and extreme cold in the forecast, now is the time to prepare cattle for winter stress. The team at Wallace Farm & Pet Supply recommends these cold-weather reminders:
💨 Block the wind
Wind causes more stress than cold alone. Provide natural or man-made windbreaks so cattle can shelter when conditions worsen.
💤 Provide dry bedding
Dry resting areas help cattle conserve energy and reduce cold stress, especially calves and breeding animals.
🌾 Adjust nutrition
Cold temps increase energy needs. Additional feed, supplements, and balanced minerals may be needed to maintain condition and performance.
💦 Keep water accessible
Check water sources often to prevent ice buildup and ensure clean, unfrozen access.
📱 Stay safe
Winter conditions are risky. Let someone know where you’ll be working, carry a phone, and use caution on ice and mud.
