We’ve always loved the Spicer Gripp and enjoyed making the trip again this year!
The sun was out, the wind was blowing and the calves were big! It was an β€œold school” Match Roping between TREVOR HALE and CHET WEITZ. Trevor rode Stanford Ranch’s π‘΄π’†π’•π’‚π’π’π’Šπ’„ π‘Ίπ’‚π’ˆπ’†. This five year old gelding ran eight calves and got better each run. Trevor may not have gotten the β€œW” but we are proud of he and π‘Ίπ’‚π’ˆπ’†!

Summer rodeo season is officially underway, and we’re cheering on two of our favorites!

πŸ”₯ Farley, owned by Pete and Tori Branch, is teamed up with Hunter Herrin and ready to hit the road. We can’t wait to follow their journey and cheer them on every step of the way.

πŸ”₯ Jinks and Dylan Hancock are loaded up and headed out. With the talent and determination this team brings, we have no doubt they’ll be collecting their share of checks this summer.

We don't want May to come and go without acknowledging the Gold Buckle Futurities show!

- Clay Cerny and We Fly High (Chip), owned by E.J. Huntley, were the Maturity Tie Down Breeders Incentive Champion, 4th in the Intermediate Tie Down and won 3rd in the Intermediate Tie Down Stallion Incentive.

- Clay Cerny and Goodnight Dolly Rey (Dolly), owned by Danny Perdue, made the Futurity Tie Down finals, won 3rd in the Intermediate Tie Down and 3rd in the Intermediate Stallion Incentive.

-Clay Cerny and Metallic Sage (Sage), owned by Stanford Performance Horses, made the Maturity Tie Down finals.

- Dylan Hancock and Kitt Katt Kidd (KK), owned by Price and Tiffani Phillips made the Maturity Tie Down Finals marking a 220 in the Short go!

-The most exciting day of the week was watching Pate Phillips in the Limited Tie Down. Pate was one of the youngest competitors (13) and rode his five year old gelding, Kitt Katt Kidd. They put together some great runs and a pretty sweet picture (see below) to be the CHAMPION!

Over the years we’ve been fortunate to have some incredible horses come through our program. Every now and then it’s fun to look back and share the stories behind a few of themβ€”Rambo is one we’ll never forget.

In the winter of 2010, our dear family friend Duck Nohavitza asked Clay to ride one of his geldings, Goose. Clay was doctoring a lot of cattle that winter and Goose got the call. To say he was tough would be an understatement. Clay rode him for about 45 days before sending him home while he was gone rodeoing.

Fast forward to September 2011… Goose came back to us and Clay started roping on him. After about two months, Mr. Nohavitza decided he didn’t want to keep investing in his training, and we bought him for $1,500. Yep… fifteen hundred dollars.

After getting his teeth floated, Clay started to feel like he might be sitting on something special. He called Hunter Herrin and told him, β€œYou need to try this horse.” Goose was talented and ready to go to a jackpot, but he definitely had his quirks. You couldn’t trim him easily, skid boots were a challenge… he was pretty β€œgoosy.”

Hunter was entered at Houston in March of 2012, tried him, and the rest is history. He bought him and renamed him Rambo.

If Hunter Herrin hadn’t trusted us and done such an incredible job with Rambo, he may have never become the great horse he was. We’re grateful we got to be a small part of his story.
