We don't want May to come and go without acknowledging the Gold Buckle Futurities show!

- Clay Cerny and We Fly High (Chip), owned by E.J. Huntley, were the Maturity Tie Down Breeders Incentive Champion, 4th in the Intermediate Tie Down and won 3rd in the Intermediate Tie Down Stallion Incentive.

- Clay Cerny and Goodnight Dolly Rey (Dolly), owned by Danny Perdue, made the Futurity Tie Down finals, won 3rd in the Intermediate Tie Down and 3rd in the Intermediate Stallion Incentive.

-Clay Cerny and Metallic Sage (Sage), owned by Stanford Performance Horses, made the Maturity Tie Down finals.

- Dylan Hancock and Kitt Katt Kidd (KK), owned by Price and Tiffani Phillips made the Maturity Tie Down Finals marking a 220 in the Short go!

-The most exciting day of the week was watching Pate Phillips in the Limited Tie Down. Pate was one of the youngest competitors (13) and rode his five year old gelding, Kitt Katt Kidd. They put together some great runs and a pretty sweet picture (see below) to be the CHAMPION!

𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐁𝐎 - 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟒 𝐏𝐑𝐂𝐀 𝐓𝐢𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫, 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟔 & 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕 𝐀𝐐𝐇𝐀 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧

Over the years we’ve been fortunate to have some incredible horses come through our program. Every now and then it’s fun to look back and share the stories behind a few of them—Rambo is one we’ll never forget.

In the winter of 2010, our dear family friend Duck Nohavitza asked Clay to ride one of his geldings, Goose. Clay was doctoring a lot of cattle that winter and Goose got the call. To say he was tough would be an understatement. Clay rode him for about 45 days before sending him home while he was gone rodeoing.

Fast forward to September 2011… Goose came back to us and Clay started roping on him. After about two months, Mr. Nohavitza decided he didn’t want to keep investing in his training, and we bought him for $1,500. Yep… fifteen hundred dollars.

After getting his teeth floated, Clay started to feel like he might be sitting on something special. He called Hunter Herrin and told him, “You need to try this horse.” Goose was talented and ready to go to a jackpot, but he definitely had his quirks. You couldn’t trim him easily, skid boots were a challenge… he was pretty “goosy.”

Hunter was entered at Houston in March of 2012, tried him, and the rest is history. He bought him and renamed him Rambo.

If Hunter Herrin hadn’t trusted us and done such an incredible job with Rambo, he may have never become the great horse he was. We’re grateful we got to be a small part of his story.
