Adoptions between 9-4 Monday through Friday. Owner pick ups 9-4 Monday through Friday. The Rankin County Animal Shelter is a division of the Rankin County Sheriff's Department and is supported by and operated for the tax payers of Rankin County, Mississippi, which covers 802 square miles. The primary purpose of the shelter is to support the animal control departments and re-unite owners with lost

pets. The Rankin County Animal Shelter only accepts animals from Rankin County, Mississippi and proof of residency is required. The shelter does not accept sick or injured animals and does not have a veterinarian on staff. The shelter has an adoption program for non re-united animals where healthy spayed/neutered animals may receive a second chance.

🚨MAX & TEDDY NEED NEW HOMES!🚨

These dogs are not located at our shelter, but are owned by a citizen in Florence who can no longer care for them. They will escape a yard if left unnattended for 8+ hours.

However, they are both crate trained, housebroken, know commands and VERY polite. Max the Bassett is a lap dog. Teddy is a family Labrador and adores children - he’s gentle and kind as can be. Both dogs are neutered

This is Marcy, she was a stray that came in a few weeks ago that was pregnant upon intake, and never claimed. Well she is about to have her babies and we need someone willing to foster her so she doesnt have them at the shelter as we are out of room. We already have one mama and 8 puppies in our puppy room, we came into work this morning at 630 and found 7 puppies in a kennel at the front gate that someone dropped off after hours covered in ants and fleas, and we also have another pregnant mama in our big pen in the puppy room awaiting to have puppies any minute.
If anyone would like to foster Marcy, we will supply a big kennel, puppy pads, food and anything else you might need to foster this mama and her babies for a few weeks.

Update: Sweet Pea just left with her new family, 8/13/25 @ 0924.

Sweet Pea is looking for her forever home. She is about 14 weeks old, she has had 2 rounds of her vaccines. We think she is mixed with a lab and hound. She definitely has a hound like bark! Her adoption fee is $80 dollars and will include her being microchipped before she leaves and will cover her rabies vaccine and spaying once she is the appropriate age. She has been at the shelter almost a month now and is ready to find a family to love and grow with.
