Northern Lakes Rescue is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Foster based Organization that focuses on saving dogs in need.

Northern Lakes Rescue is a foster based rescue that will save dogs everywhere as long as we have a foster that will provide a loving home until their forever home is found. Prior to adoption all animals will be spayed/neutered and up to date on age appropriate vaccines.

Happy Halloween, humans! Possum here.

My foster family is pretty fang-tastic. I get treats, snuggles, a cozy place to sleep… really, I have very few complaints.

BUT. I can’t help but wonder if my forever family is straight-up GHOSTING me.

Like… hello?! Where are you people?!

I’ve been sitting here looking ridiculously cute, being a very good girl, and practically waving these ears around like little adoption antennas.

Are you lost? Did you take a wrong turn at the haunted house? Because I’m right here.

No tricks. Just ears. If you hurry up and find me, you’ll get a lifetime of snuggles too!

We need your connections.

Northern Lakes Rescue is getting ready to launch something new for Give to the Max Day: our Rescue Ready Fund. More details are coming soon, but the purpose is simple — to make sure funding is there when a dog needs us to say yes.

Dogs like Balto.

Balto was found dumped in the woods and came to us heartworm positive. He needed treatment, resources and a rescue willing to take a chance on him.

He needed a yes. That is exactly what the Rescue Ready Fund is being created to protect.

Sometimes the hardest part of rescue isn’t finding the compassion to help. It’s having the funding ready when the call comes in.

Right now, we’re looking for local business owners and companies willing to step up as Give to the Max Matching Challenge Partners, with matching opportunities starting at just $500.

A $50 donation can become $100. A $500 donation can become $1,000.

Those matching dollars will help build a fund for the cases that can’t wait — emergency medical needs, heartworm treatment, parvo treatment and bottle baby care.

Noodin, aka Noodles, our NLR Mascot, took a little field trip to the Brainerd Fire Station on Monday to work on his socialization and therapy skills with some of our local firefighters in honor of National First Responders Day.

He practiced meeting new people, checking out new surroundings, and, of course, soaking up a little extra attention.

We may have had another reason for stopping by too, but you’ll have to wait a little longer to find out.

Ryder is looking for his Ryde or Die.

This 1½-year-old Lab/Husky mix is basically built to be somebody’s best buddy. He walks great on leash, loves adventures, is treat motivated, does well with other dogs, has solid house manners, and is always down to hang out on the couch after a long day.

He’s independent enough not to be needy, but loyal enough to become your shadow once he decides you’re his guy.

Older kids are preferred because Ryder takes his post-adventure slumbers very seriously and does not appreciate being rudely awakened from his beauty rest.

Cats? He thinks they’re a little too interesting. He can be redirected, but a cat-free home may be the easiest fit unless you’re ready to work on boundaries.

If you’re looking for a hiking buddy, walking partner, couch companion, snack enthusiast, and all-around good dude…

Foster found 🐾

There are three rules when it comes to Gizmo:
1. You CAN get him wet.
2. You CAN feed him after midnight.
3. You absolutely CAN take him home.

Gizmo is 2 years old, about 35 lbs, people friendly, dog friendly, and rocking the scruffy little Gremlin look in the best possible way.

The only thing we’re trying to multiply around here is applications.

Trick or treat
smell my puppy breath,

Saguaro, aka Ziggy, has a Halloween trick up his tiny little sleeve: looking so ridiculously cute that someone has no choice but to adopt him.

That’s the trick. The treat is a forever home.

Ziggy is one of Mama Sequoia’s National Park puppies, and he’s basically a fun-sized package of puppy chaos, snuggles and questionable personal space.

He’s dog friendly, lives with big and small dogs, is doing great with potty training, and is learning all the important house rules. Mostly.

Because he’s still a puppy, and puppies believe rules are more like suggestions.

This Halloween, Ziggy doesn’t need candy. He needs someone to fall for the oldest trick in the book: One look at that face. One sniff of the puppy breath.

Meet Finn — 25 pounds of fetch, zoomies, wrestling and absolutely high levels of enthusiasm.

This 1-year-old herding mix is basically a fun-sized athlete with a turbo button. He LOVES other dogs, lives for a good game of fetch, and would probably crush Agility, Fast CAT or Flyball.

A few things to know:
🐾 House + crate trained
🐾 Loves playful dog friends
🐾 Best with older kids
🐾 High prey drive
🐾 Needs calm introductions with new people
🐾 Quieter home/country life = his dream

Finn is goofy, loyal, athletic, a little mouthy in true herding-dog fashion, and ready to find someone who can keep up.
