Today is Lola's surgery, and we still need to raise $1600 to cover the costs. Can you help us reach our goal?

Every share, prayer, and healing vibe also makes a difference!

We're hoping for a successful surgery and negative test results.

Thank you again to Dr. Matt at Superior Animal Hospital for taking care of our sweet gal!

Happy World Veterinary Appreciation Day! 🩺❤️

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our dedicated veterinary partners across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Your exceptional skill, compassion, and commitment are absolutely fundamental to our mission.

These invaluable partnerships ensure that our foster animals receive the highest standard of medical care, enabling them to remain safe, healthy, and prepared for their journey to a loving forever home. We are incredibly fortunate to collaborate with such outstanding professionals.

We also want to express our appreciation for our two volunteer vet staff members. Your tireless efforts and expertise behind the scenes are critical to the well-being of our animals, and your dedication is truly inspiring. Thank you Amber and Savannah!

To all veterinarians and veterinary support staff: thank you for your tireless work and profound impact on animal welfare. You are true pillars of our community.

We'd like you to meet Sullivan, a sweet puppy named after Lake Sullivan and part of our recent "Lakes Litter." When Sully arrived on Saturday with his nine siblings, we immediately noticed something was wrong. He was quiet, limping, and seemed incredibly lethargic.

Our intake team quickly tested him for parvo, which thankfully came back negative! However, an unusual decision to run a 4DX test—rare for an 8-week-old puppy due to the typical incubation period—revealed a faint positive for Lyme disease.

Sully had a fever, stiff joints, and just wanted to be held. A vet visit was clearly in order, and this morning, Sully tested positive for anaplasmosis. It's rare for a puppy his age to show these tick-borne diseases so early.

On top of that, poor Sully is also anemic due to hookworms. This little guy is facing a multitude of health challenges at just eight weeks old.

We are committed to helping Sully get comfortable and bounce back, but we can't do it without your support. His unexpected vet visit today alone cost $303.73, and he'll need more lab monitoring next week.

We are staying in close contact with the fosters of the 9 other puppies to ensure that they are all happy, healthy, and alert! Continue to send healthy positive vibes to this litter!

Please consider donating to Sully's care. Your generosity will help us cover his ongoing medical expenses and give him the fighting chance he deserves. Can you help us ensure Sully gets back to being a happy, healthy puppy?

🚨 FOSTER NEEDED - CENTRAL/NORTHERN MN! 🚨
This sweet, young hound mix (approx. 1-2 years old) was found as a stray in Rice, MN. He was trapped on 6/7 after being spotted running loose since 6/1. He's not neutered or chipped.
His stray hold is UP, and we desperately need a foster to keep him safe while we search for his owner or a rescue. We're open to fosters anywhere in Central or Northern MN! He's been good with cats and dogs in his temporary home, but is still a bit shy with new people.
Thank you to The Retrievers for their hard work securing this fella.
Local authorities (vet, sheriff, HS) have been notified, and no owner has come forward. If you're interested in fostering this deserving boy, please contact your foster coordinator ASAP!
Let's help him find his way.
If you are new to fostering, please contact us through our website or submit a foster application today!

Meet Lola! This brave girl joined us a few weeks ago as a stray from Isanti County. She came to Northern Lakes Rescue with a very visible and concerning mass on her belly, which our vet determined needs immediate removal due to the risk of rupture. Trying to keep a lively pointer still is quite the challenge! 😉

Thursday is a big day for Lola as she undergoes surgery to remove the mass and also be spayed. The good news is, it doesn't appear to have metastasized, but we'll know more after testing the tissue. The estimated cost for her procedure is close to $1,800.

Lola perfectly embodies two of our 2025 goals: focusing on local strays and medical cases. We see firsthand the gap in care for animals found wandering without a home in our local communities, as these individuals are often injured in some capacity as well.

This also applies to those who arrive with illnesses or injuries that demand immediate, often costly, veterinary intervention.

🐾Volunteer Spotlight: Amber and Cody🐾
Tonight, we want to shine a well-deserved spotlight on Amber (and her other half, Cody), two incredibly dedicated volunteers.

Amber and Cody have fostered countless animals throughout their time in the rescue world. From fragile bottle babies, to whelping mamas, to behavioral assessments, to those needing hospice care, Amber never hesitates to say "yes" when an animal needs a safe haven. Beyond fostering, Amber is a vital part of Northern Lakes Rescue, serving as a foster coordinator and a member of the intake and vetting teams. Her expertise is truly invaluable, and we are so grateful to have her with us.

Pictured below is Amber and Cody with one of our newest arrivals, Ellie May. Ellie May might look familiar to some of you; we've taken in several of her siblings over the past couple of years, most recently Etta and the "Land Before Time" litter.

When we rescued Etta, we were told there was another adult dog in the home, but she was nowhere to be found. For months, Ellie was tragically presumed dead. However, after her owner was arrested, Ellie was miraculously discovered at a family member's home, chained to a tree.

Ellie is now safe and being fostered by her long lost sister June, one of the original Dogo pups who came to NLR in 2023, and her human, Tom!

Thank you, Amber and Cody, for your tireless dedication and for all you do for Northern Lakes Rescue and the countless pups whose lives you touch!
