👯‍♀️ Twinning Thursday 👯‍♂️

Talk about double the cuteness! 💕 IMED patient Nala couldn’t resist a cuddle with Shamari, while Rambo, Sydney’s furbaby, joined in on the look-alike fun. 🐾✨

Who else thinks these two pups were separated at birth? 😍

Meet Ricky - our very own hospital MacGyver!

Since 2008, Ricky has been the heart (and toolbox) of our facility, keeping everything running smoothly while greeting everyone, pets and people alike, with a smile. 😁

From fixing literally anything to showering our furry visitors with love, Ricky does it all. He’s proof that quality care doesn’t just happen in the exam rooms, it happens in the hallways, the kennels, the breakroom, the parking lot…anywhere a light bulb needs changing, a door needs fixing, or a pet needs a scratch behind the ears. 🐾

Outside of DCES, Ricky is also a talented photographer and videographer - skills that make him a great second eye for our Marketing Department when capturing the moments that bring our work to life. 🎥📸

Drop a 🐶 or 🐱 in the comments to help us give Ricky his well-deserved flowers for all he does! 🌸

At Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty, education is one of our core values - and as a teaching hospital, we’re committed to creating learning opportunities for our team.

This week, we were pleased to host an advanced anesthesia training led by Dr. Gaby Escalante of Midwest Anesthesia Consulting Veterinary Services LLC. Dr. Escalante delivered an in-depth presentation on best practices for providing advanced anesthesia care and joined our team on the floor to apply these techniques during procedures.

Thank you, Dr. Escalante, for sharing your expertise and helping us continue to elevate the care we provide to our patients.

🐾 Meet Jaxson! 🐾

This handsome guy belongs to our incredible ER tech, Jess! 💙 Jess rescued Jaxson as a puppy from the streets of Mississippi, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

From tagging along to Jess’s senior year at UMD 🎓🐶 to settling into their new home in South County, Jaxson is living his best life, with plenty of space to roam, explore, and do what he loves most: adventuring! 🌲🐕✨

We love seeing our team’s furbabies thrive, especially when they have a story as heartwarming as Jaxson’s. Big shout-out to all those who rescue, foster, and adopt, you’re changing lives, one paw at a time. 💛

Meet Dr. Cilli!

With over 10 years of veterinary experience, Dr. Cilli brings a deep commitment to compassionate, high-quality care. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George's University, holds a BA in Biology from Oakland University, and completed advanced specialty training at institutions including the University of Pennsylvania and BluePearl Midtown in NYC. She became a board-certified Emergency & Critical Care specialist in 2021.

Originally from Michigan, Dr. Cilli now calls the DC/Bethesda area home. She’s passionate about working closely with clients to ensure their pets receive the best possible care, especially during life’s most critical moments.

When she’s not in the ER, you’ll find her enjoying spending time with her lovable (and a little dramatic) Beagle, Loki.

Please help us welcome Dr. Cilli to the DCES family! 💙

🎉 Graduation day for Malle! 💙

Back in April, sweet Malle came to us after a dangerous overdose of vitamin D. His journey included frequent recheck visits, lots of bloodwork, and even more love from our team.

Over the past few months, Malle and his mom have truly become part of our DCES family, and we’re excited to share that he’s officially graduated from needing continued care with us and can return to his normal cat life! 🐱

This case wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our partners at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, who played a important role in Malle’s treatment. Thank you 💗

Please help us wish Malle a happy, healthy chapter ahead! 🐶💛

Meet Our Mentorship Program Mentees!

We’re excited to welcome three passionate DVMs who joined our Mentorship Program this July. Each of them brings a unique background, strong clinical experience, and a genuine love for veterinary medicine.

🐾 Dr. Alyssa Manganelli

Dr. Manganelli earned her DVM from St. George’s University in June 2025, following a B.S. in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Tech. Her experience spans general practice, emergency care, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical support. At home, she enjoys life with her two cats: Puff, a five-year-old cuddle expert, and Griffyn, her playful sidekick.

🐾 Dr. Franchesca Rollerson-Clark

A recent graduate of Kansas State University, Dr. Rollerson-Clark has a strong interest in oncology, ER, and internal medicine. Her background includes surgical assistance, laser therapy, and research on canine cytochrome P450 enzymes. Outside of work, she’s a fan of outdoor adventures with her three dogs - Koda, Lillie, and Spud.

🐾 Dr. Abbie Harty

Dr. Harty graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2025. She’s brought valuable experience from wildlife medicine, general practice, and emergency care. In her downtime, she loves spending time with her pittie mix, Ruth, whom she rescued during college.
