Cats are often the quiet ones in rescue, waiting a little longer and getting a little less attention. This National Cat Day, we're celebrating our feline friends and asking for your help in making sure they get the love and support they deserve.
Right now, Barktown has several new cats (introductions coming soon) and kittens in our care. Many are still being nursed back to health, while others are patiently waiting for families to notice them. While puppies often steal the spotlight, our cats need us just as much.
Donations of cat food, supplies, litter, and monetary gifts are always appreciated and help us provide the care these deserving cats need while they wait for forever homes.

🎃 Halloween Week Safety for Dogs & Cats

Halloween is fun for humans… but it can be seriously stressful for our furry family members. As the week ramps up with costumes, candy, and constant doorbell rings, here are a few quick tips to keep pets safe and comfortable:
🎃 Costume comfort — If your pet wears a costume, make sure it’s lightweight, non‑restrictive, and doesn’t block vision or breathing.
🎃 Candy caution — Chocolate, sugar‑free candies, and wrappers are dangerous for dogs and cats. Keep all treats out of reach.
🎃 Doorway safety — With trick‑or‑treaters coming and going, pets can slip out quickly. Keep them in a quiet room during peak hours.
🎃 Decoration hazards — Glow sticks, candles, fake cobwebs, and small décor pieces can be harmful if chewed or swallowed.
🎃 Stress reduction — Loud noises and costumes can be overwhelming. Provide a calm space with toys, treats, and familiar smells.
🎃 If you’re celebrating this week, give your pets a little extra love — and keep them safe while the humans enjoy the spooky fun.
🐾 From all of us at Barktown: Happy Halloween Week!

Carnival night is always a fun time. The students make games and bring awareness and get donations for local non-profits. They always choose Barktown Rescue, and we are so grateful for their support! Poncho, the MVP had the best time and was the official home made treat taste tester!

Thank you Bernheim Middle School!

What a difference a couple days make! Zoe is definitely one you have to take your time with. Understandable, given the fact she was stray and suspected to be dumped.

Today though, we have made progress and this is an example of why we do what we do!
