Mannered Misfits Dog Training

Mannered Misfits Dog Training A societal categorized human misfit guiding your mischievous canine toward success in the real world.

Since 2015, I have been working with dogs and educating myself on modern and humane training methods. I spent six years employed at the Idaho Humane Society in Boise, ID. My #1 goal working with clients and their dogs is to provide effective dog training with an emphasis on safety, empathy and trust. My training is best known as positive reinforcement training utilizing the Humane Hierarchy and Dr Eduardo Fernandez’s new LIFE approach (least inhibitive, functionally effective).

When I broke my knee ago, I was in physical therapy for 6 months. My PT discovered what my job was and got creative with my exercises. I felt safe handling dogs again, but not on a regular 6 ft leash.

Dog walking injuries are common, and behavior is not guaranteed. Handling dogs on a 6ft leash is not sustainable for me. It causes more stress in my knees and an increased likelihood for injury if the dog lunges. The dogs in this video range from 25 to 105 lbs. Long leashes saved my job and they keep me safe. If you’re worried about safety with a long line, make sure the environment is appropriate for the length of leash you’re using.

If you’re thinking about getting a longer leash, support and use code manneredmisfit for 10% off your order!

I wish I could put into words what this new logo means to me. Everyday, I tell various people that I choose this work because of Layla. My original misfit is forever honored through my business. Thank you so much to .babybat for their hard work and collaboration with me.

F**k AI. It steals jobs, poisons the environment, and is killing our creativity. I would have never trusted it with such an important project.

Thank you for everything, Layla.

Once upon a time, I was working with a client and her neighbor to introduce their two dogs. My client and I also had a personal friendship. She was just trying to take cute photos of me working with her pup, Mick. My emotions are always on my face sometimes. Ironically, this was during her neighbor literally doing the same thing that is depicted in the first meme.

Anyway, I’ve sat on this photo for awhile. Now I know its true potential and hopefully it makes you laugh. Please enjoy.

I had grown experience from handling long lines when I worked at the humane society. I’ve only advanced that skill in my business.

However, my days get busy. Every so often, the front seat of my car looks like this. Oh and I have ADHD. 😇

My best tip on practice your long line handling? Practice without your dog attached. Get comfortable and take your time. You got this.

Plus, get yourself some long line keepers from High Tail Hikes. They’re more handy than you think. 😇

I was elated when my friend and former shelter co-worker, Jess, invited me to teach the Pet Supplies Plus grooming team in Garden City all about minimal-restraint techniques and safe handling. Teaching these skills is something that I deeply care about. I firmly believe that all facilities handling animals deserve access to updated education so they can keep their employees safe and the animals' experiences as low stress as possible.

A big thank you to the grooming and store staff at Pet Supplies Plus, and Jess for your trust in me. And thank you to Potato for tolerating the staff practicing on you and having the best body language moments.

This is something I would love to do more of! If your veterinary clinic, grooming salon, or other pet friendly business could use some updated tools and techniques to help better animal's lives, please reach out!

CW: high pitched sound effects, jump scares, movie spoilers.

One of my favorite skills is to teach humans is the body language between dogs. Once you’ve identified what subtle cues to look for, it makes it more simple to identify why your dog might be behaving a certain way toward another.

I used horror movie references for this post due to the body language dogs may be seeing, and how it can be scary for them. I am also a spooky season 12 months a year kind of human. Happy Halloween. 🎃👻💀

I've been quiet on here the last few months, and it's partially due to Olive's behavior at home. I had seen a post from awhile ago regarding their own dog, JJ, and it encouraged me to pursue similar action.

Olive taught me a lot while living with her. I'm glad that Dan has been so supportive in what I've had to say. We're currently still managing her pain with medication and limited exercise while Dan budgets for all of her procedures.

Despite the fact that we're not out of the woods yet, it was helpful to hear that my gut feelings weren't invalidated. In the last year, I've changed my thought process on how I see behaviors and help my clients. Someday I hope to have more continuing education and certification in this process, but I'm fortunate enough to have a supportive online community.
