EDIT: CPA has denied necropsy of Grady aka Greyson even with proof of allowing someone else to take him in for whatever vet care needed as well as it already being paid for by WTF. She had sent me a message this morning threatening to sue me and the Vet that treated him. In the end she gave proof of ownership despite asking our friend to take him to any vet for care needed. they had to respect that in the end. Something is just no adding up here…. Be very careful who you trust out there! I’m so sorry 😞 we really tried to help him and get necessary answers.

I had a line of happy post scheduled this week as we lead into our event on Saturday.. However we had a heavy heart day yesterday that I can’t move on from I am tired of hiding things I know to be true because I am not a dramatic person. But now I have cops calling me asking questions and our vet now being involved all because Counterpart Aviary/ Idaho parrot rescue.

*Before reading I understand some may have feelings, thoughts and opinions to share. If we can please keep the comment section as respectful as possible. There are families and kiddos who follow these birds journeys. If you have more questions following please feel free to reach out*

As some of you know there is a rescue who popped up at that time she had sent me hateful messages harassing me and making untrue accusations about WTFR being not reputable. Shortly after she had claims of abuse made which got animal control involved. They disappeared for awhile and then rebranded to Counterpart Aviary/ Idahos parrot rescue (she has since deleted everything). She had a bird named Grady in her care who was very ill (was healthy when he arrived) she had been saying he was being taken to the vet but there are no records we were able to find or willingness from CP to provide them to our vet during this all. After my past experience with her and how she harassed me months ago I can’t stay quiet and I’m sorry if this is disappointing to some of you. I HATE drama but this is now for the safety of the birds and the situation at hand.

The story

The most genuine kindhearted human reached out yesterday morning asking what vet we used. She had mentioned she had a very sick African Grey that she picked up from Counterpart Aviary/ Rescue (with permission to vet him on her own dime since it didn’t seem CP was able to) He needed immediate emergency care. I quickly called our vet to get him scheduled for urgent care visit. He had been pooping blood, and lethargic, she was able to hold him to her chest for a few kisses but ultimately he was far too weak to hold himself up. She rushed him in and got him back to an O2 tank quickly. From there the veterinarian team said he is so weak and sick they worried any type of exam at that time would kill him. They had hopes he would get oxygen and start to get some strength back, sadly he passed shortly after arriving 😞. His human who had loved him like she knew him his whole life even if it was only for a short hour was able to give him his last snuggles and kisses. She spoke positive words to him and even prayed. Her heart is so genuine and loving, he passed feeling that love.

She was fully dedicated and prepared to pay for whatever he needed out of her own pocket. I felt this should not be her responsibility given the circumstances, being a rescue it’s our duty to help these birds no matter where they came from or whether or not they are with WTF or not. It’s thanks to our community for supporting us that we are able to help no questions asked in these situations. Hearts were broken yesterday, questions were asked many unanswered.

I messaged CP yesterday to let her know what happened. All was respectful but her main concern was saving face not Grady. We were unable to locate any vet records on him that she claimed she had. There was no record of him being seen, this bird needed help and he was not getting it! It became more clear how this may not be about the birds for her when I woke up to a text “the police are involved”. I then got a call from an officer who asked questions and ultimately the. questioned why CP was so upset about us trying to get Grady Care in the end. CP is now trying to call the vet to refuse the necropsy we ordered and paid for (which as a rescue needs to be done when a bird passes). The fact that she has gone as far as to get police involved as well as drag our incredible vet team into it because she doesn’t want the answers to the necropsy. This is a civil situation over getting Grady emergency care when she couldn’t! There have been far too many illnesses and deaths in that place for me to just stay silent especially now since she’s wanting to refuse necropsy.

I am not worried as we did exactly what we needed to do however I feel the public needs to know what goes on behind closed doors. It’s time I speak up for the safety of the birds and our avian community.

In the end
We were able to cover the whole visit yesterday, however our friend (she’s more than welcome to announce who she is in the comments if she feels comfortable) paid for him to be sent home afterwards. If you feel it in your heart to help cover the costs of his memorial I would love to be able to send her those funds the total for that was $131.75 . She stepped up when no one else would, she did everything she could to get him in as fast as possible. I am so sorry to those involved in the heartbreak of yesterday and I thank all those involved who helped and those who support us for these very situations. I’m sorry to those who are having to deal with the after math of something that should have been done in the first place.

🎉PENDING ADOPTION 🎉

🦜Birdie Spotlight 🦜

I am surprised by this one, coming up on 2 Months! We have a really rare pair (I’m not joking) Cody and Lolo a bonded pair of the most amazing African greys. Not only is it rare to find a truly sweet Congo but even more rare to have a pair of them who love each other AND love their people.

We have had multiple applications, some that wouldn’t be the best fit and many who would be. multiple people who have been approved to adopt them have not followed through to even meet them first.

🦜Cody and Lolo are looking for their forever home who will NOT separate them. They are a bonded pair of DNA tested males about 14/15 years old (many years left to live).

Their ideal home would be a family (kids 7+ years) with a stay at home or homeschool parent or a couple who is active in their home and home most of the day, a home where they will be let out of their cage majority of the day, Cody does show signs of distress when left in the cage for long stretches, he is known to pluck in these stressful situations. they love going outside into an aviary and being ran around the house so they can feel the wind in their wings (they beg for you to run them around the house). They have mainly been with females but their original home was an elder man, doesn’t mean they would prefer a man now but they are very happy and trusting with their lady fosters. The most important thing for them is they would be together and be in a home that would not keep them cage bound for many hours. They talk when they feel like it but this should not be a main concern when adopting a bird as it’s not all the time or when asked , a bird who talks is not for entertainment purposes and should never be a main focus when adopting (you will be disappointed). And even though they are the sweetest Greys they still have their days and moments where they will bite if you push them or they just want to be left alone.

They are on a Harrison’s pellet and chop diet (Have been on this diet most of their.).

They can go with a large Stainless steel cage included in their adoption as it’s important they have adequate space.

Please fill out an application on our website followed by a video tour or photos of the space you would keep a bird as well as photos of your current birds and their set up (if any). You do not need to include private rooms or bathrooms in your. Applications without this will not be considered. If you have already applied for these two specifically but did not get a call to meet it’s not because you wouldn’t be a great home for a bird these two may just not be the right fit. ♥️

🦜Introduction post🦜

Today we Welcomed Three new friends to WTFR. Kiwi a 25 year old Male Eclectus, Daphne a 12 year old Female Eclectus, and Gilligan a 10 year old Sun conure. All three were surrendered due to aggressive behavior towards the main caregiver in the home. We are unsure exactly of their behavior moving into a new environment or moving forward. They will begin their assessment with us so we can get to know their personalities and needs before we can share their exact personality descriptions.

If you would like to sponsor our current residents during their stay, our sponsors help us provide the essentials, food, grooming, any vet care needed, etc during their stay.

We couldn’t do this without you all, thank you!

I am absolutely blown away by the support that came in yesterday 🤯!

There were such generous gifts sent! All together between a handful of VERY generous supporters we have enough to get us through the next 3 months of basic needs as well as put back what we took out of savings!!! I honestly am at a loss for words, thank you to everyone who showed up yesterday to help get us through the hard months 🙏.

I don’t like to push for help, but as a rescue it is something I have to do at least a few times a year when things get really slow. WTF is officially in a bit of a slump and asking for help 🙏! Due to adoption and sponsorships being extremely slower the past few months as well as fosters being full we are having to put a hold on new intakes until we are able to get things back into a comfortable spot again. We have a waitlist of about 5 birds right now (non emergent) with multiple still in our care.

WTF was short $200 of last months goal and only two smaller adoptions. This month our goal is $900 (this really only gets basic needs with how behind we are) so far we are at $50 for the month. We also cleared our account at Parrots n stuff and had to get into our emergency savings for food, cleaning supplies, and storage unit. we are needing to ask the community for a boost of help to get us back into a secure place financially so we are not going through the emergency savings so quickly. Don’t forget about Our raffle for the Yeti cooler (only 10 entries total so far).

We completely understand the start of summer is busy for many of us, if we can rally the community together to get WTF through the summer months anything truly helps. We are so grateful for all of you and the support we continue to receive to ensure the birds are well taken care of while with us and after. ♥️
