One of the most common emergency surgeries we do is a pyometra surgery. We saw two pyometras in one day today! A pyometra is an infected uterus, which is a life-threatening emergency. This happens to about 25% of female dogs and cats who are intact (not spayed). Their uterus becomes 5-10 times its normal size and fills with pus. A pyometra spay surgery has a higher chance of anesthesia complications, bleeding, sepsis, and even death compared to a normal spay. We highly recommend spaying your dog or cat at the appropriate age based on their breed (6 months to 2 years depending on the breed) to avoid a life-threatening pyometra. Many clients have never heard of this when they come in, so we just want to spread the word! This is an example of a uterus that we removed today… for reference, the second photo is a normal sized uterus. 😅

We delivered the absolute most perfect 6 baby puppies via emergency c-section tonight and got their sweet mommy spayed at the same time 💓 The pet parents got to watch the entire surgery and help revive the puppies as they were born. Wishing sweet Ember a speedy recovery!

Please let us know if anyone is interested in this cutie boy, OR if anyone has lost him. He was found in Paragon, IN in a field, infested with fleas and starving. He is severely anemic but getting better since being treated for the fleas. He is currently living at our clinic. No microchip is present. He is SO SWEET. We will be fattening him up and making sure he does not decline in health due to his anemia, but I predict he will be back to normal in the next month. He is neutered. I predict he is around 1 year old. Please call the clinic if you are interested in making him an INDOOR only cat in a loving home! You will need proof of updated vet care for your current animals if you have any.

Good evening city of Bloomington and surrounding areas 💓 We would like to address an unfortunate dilemma we are having. While we would love to help ALL of the pets who need to be seen, we only have ONE doctor working at Pitties and Pals. This means at some point basically every day, we do have to turn patients away and recommend that they be seen elsewhere due to us operating at full capacity. I am making this post at midnight as all of our staff members are trying to leave the clinic even though we closed at 8pm today. We see around 20+ sick animals every single shift, and we do emergency surgeries almost every single day. We just finished a life-saving surgery tonight, as we will likely do tomorrow and the next day. We are working incredibly hard trying to help this community and to give the clinics in the area some relief from their incredible workload. While we empathize with those whose pets need immediate attention, there is a point where we physically cannot see your pet due to emergencies and illnesses of pets who are already in our building. We do not make the decision to turn pets away lightly, it is made out of necessity and compassion for the pets and families who are already here and need our undivided attention. We appreciate our clients for being so wonderful thus far. As we hire more veterinarians in the future, we will be able to see more pets. We appreciate everyone’s kindness 🫶🏼

Good morning. I am sorry if you received an appointment confirmation for your pet even though you don’t have an appointment scheduled. Our system had an error and accidentally sent our past clients appointment confirmations last night. I especially apologize if your pet has since passed away and this brought up any grief or sad feelings for you. This is an error we had no control over, and again, we are very sorry about it. To be clear, there are no appointments scheduled at our clinic besides same day appointments, so you do not need to show up for this appointment. Thank you for your understanding! 💓

GOOOOD EVENING! We are CLOSED this Saturday for the holiday!! Please have a safe, happy day and keep your pets out of the intense heat and away from fireworks!
