Wilderness Trails Zoo

Wilderness Trails Zoo Wilderness Trails Zoo is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Come visit us and take a stroll through our shaded paths and see our resident animals!

Looking to escape winter? Book a premium rainforest experience- wildernesstrailszoo.org/winter-tropics Wilderness Trails Zoo opened in 1991. Our trails take visitors through 56 acres of natural surroundings to see exotic animals such as primates, zebras, lions, reptiles, and parrots. There is a petting area and parakeet encounter for an up close and personal adventure with our animals. Guests can

also imagine life as a bird-eating spider or a red-tailed boa constrictor in our “Rainforest Experience.” There are also feed stations throughout the zoo to feed animals such as goats and fish. After feeding the animals around the zoo, your family can relax and enjoy your lunch in our “Picnic Pavilion.” If the kids still have energy after their zoo adventure, they can pretend to be monkeys and swing and hang on the playground equipment.

🐾 June is National Zoo & Aquarium Month! 🐾

For the next 30 days, we'll be celebrating the animals, people, conservation efforts, and experiences that make Wilderness Trails Zoo special.

We're kicking off the month by introducing two exciting primate additions to Wilderness Trails Zoo: the Blue Sykes Guenon and the De Brazza's Monkey!

The Blue Sykes Guenon is especially unique, with Wilderness Trails Zoo being one of only three zoos in the United States to care for this remarkable species. Our De Brazza's Monkey is equally impressive, known for its striking orange crown and distinctive white beard.

As a nonprofit zoo, every visit helps support animal care, habitat improvements, educational programs, and the future of the zoo. Throughout June, we'll be sharing animal spotlights, conservation stories, behind-the-scenes moments, project updates, and some exciting things still to come.

Thank you for being part of our zoo family and helping us connect people with wildlife every day.

🦜 Happy World Parrot Day! 🦜

As World Parrot Day comes to a close, we’re celebrating the amazing parrots that call Wilderness Trails Zoo home.

Every parrot in our collection is a rescue. While their stories are all different, they now have a permanent home where they receive expert care and help inspire thousands of guests each year through education and conservation.

From curious Amazons to colorful macaws, these intelligent birds remind us why wildlife education and responsible animal ownership matter.

Next time you visit, be sure to stop by and say hello to our feathered ambassadors. ❤️

🎉 SAVE THE DATE — We’re Celebrating 35 Years of Wilderness Trails Zoo! 🎉

Join us Saturday, August 8th as we celebrate 35 wild years of memories, milestones, and the amazing community that has helped our zoo grow. 🐾

This special anniversary celebration will also feature one of our longest-standing traditions — Reptile Weekend! 🦎 Get up close with incredible reptiles, enjoy educational presentations, and learn from the passionate people who help make this event possible.

For more than two decades, Chris and Karen Niezgucki and the Niezgucki Family Rescued Reptile Sanctuary have been an important part of Wilderness Trails Zoo — caring for animals, educating guests, improving the zoo grounds, and sharing their love of reptiles with generations of visitors.

We can’t wait to celebrate 35 years of wild adventures with all of you. 💚

More anniversary announcements and event details will be shared throughout the summer, but for now… mark your calendars — you won’t want to miss this!

Wild Fact Wednesday 🐃

Water buffalo spend a lot of time in water and mud to help regulate their body temperature and protect their skin from the sun and insects. On warm days, a muddy pond can feel just as refreshing to them as a swimming pool does to us.

And despite their relaxed appearance, water buffalo can weigh over 2,000 pounds and are surprisingly strong swimmers!

Have you spotted our water buffalo enjoying the pond during your visit to the zoo?
