Wilderness Trails Zoo

Wilderness Trails Zoo Wilderness Trails Zoo is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Come visit us and take a stroll through our shaded paths and see our resident animals!

Our expert staff is always available to help you enjoy your time and make it both educational and memorable! Wilderness Trails Zoo opened in 1991. Our trails take visitors through 56 acres of natural surroundings to see exotic animals such as primates, zebras, lions, reptiles, and parrots. There is a petting area and parakeet encounter for an up close and personal adventure with our animals. Guest

s can also imagine life as a bird-eating spider or a red-tailed boa constrictor in our “Rainforest Experience.” There are also feed stations throughout the zoo to feed animals such as goats and fish. After feeding the animals around the zoo, your family can relax and enjoy your lunch in our “Picnic Pavilion.” If the kids still have energy after their zoo adventure, they can pretend to be monkeys and swing and hang on the playground equipment.

Reposting from a page “All Thats Interesting” about the maned wolf!

With its big ears, stilt legs, and urine that smells just like marjiuana, there's no other creature on Earth quite like the maned wolf. Found only in certain forests and grasslands in South America, this elusive creature sports a mohawk-like mane that stands up on end when it's threatened while it lets out a distinctive sound that can only be described as a "roar-bark."

This species was once threatened by those in Brazi who used to hunt it for its eyes — believing that they were good-luck charms. But today, this bizarre canid is now officially nearing endangered status, with human development and industrialization all but wiping it out in Uruguay. Learn more about this one-of-a-kind cross between a wolf, a lion, and a fox that's like something out of Greek mythology:
