Meet the Staff!

Dr. Mindy Maresca grew up in the Southern Tier. She always knew that she wanted to work with animals. Her education journey began at SUNY Delhi where she graduated with an associate’s degree in Veterinary Science Technology. She decided to continue her education at Binghamton University completing her undergraduate degree in Biology while obtaining the necessary pre-requisites to apply to veterinary school. During this time, she also worked as a licensed veterinary technician.

Following her graduation from Binghamton University, Dr. Maresca moved to Ithaca and attended Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. While at Cornell, Dr. Maresca worked part-time in the community practice service, spent a summer riding with an equine vet, and spent several externships at an exotic practice but ultimately decided that small animal medicine is where she belonged in the veterinary world.

After graduating from Cornell, Dr. Maresca moved to the Boston area where she gained a large amount of experience in medicine, surgery, and emergency care. After spending several years in Boston, Dr. Maresca returned home and, after a period of time working as a relief veterinarian, found her home at SPEAK Animal Hospital in 2007.

While Dr. Maresca’s professional interests include both dogs and cats, she particularly enjoys feline medicine and working with our shelter cats at SPEAK. When not at SPEAK, she enjoys being outside doing anything active, running, and most of all, traveling with her husband Mike and daughter Emme. She currently has one kitty named Edwin (pictured here).

This week's Happy Ending update comes to us from Stephanie and it is truly heartwarming! Charlie looks so happy in his "furever" home 😻

"I adopted Charlie FKA Mikah at 10 months old. He is now 5 years old. He has fit into our family so well. He instantly became friends with our two dogs, Mia (Boxer) and Molly (Border Collie). He loves to lounge around on the couch or watch for birds out the bay window. He is such a cuddle bug. He doesn't care if he is cuddling with us or one of his dog sisters. At night he gets the zoomies and turns into an energetic ball of fur. I am so glad I found him. He is my little buddy!"

Dr. Landry loves spending time with her husband (Manny) and her own menagerie of animals: her mustang (Sicario), Bulgarian street dog (Rossytsa), 2 rabbits (Peasblossom and Mustardseed), 2 chinchillas (Cobweb and Moth), and a ball python (Monty). In her free time, she looks forward to endurance and trail riding and trail ultramarathons.

Choriza

9 years young. Spayed female
SUPER affectionate and sweet.

Choriza is large and in charge, chunky yet funky, boldly sweet and absolutely beautiful! This attention-seeking girl loves to be your shadow and follow you around wherever you go, dishing out the figure-8 leg rubs and looking up for pets and attention frequently. She loves laps and is very easy going but still has a gentle playful side about her. She is good with children and other cats and has shown to be fine around calm obedient dogs that give her space when she wants it.

If you are interested in adopting Choriza or any of our adoptable cats or kittens, please complete our adoption application and send it in for review. Applications can be found on our website www.speakanimalhospital.org and completed forms may be submitted to our email: [email protected].

Another "purr-fect" ending for one of our SPEAK kittens! Thank for you this wondeful update, Rachel!

"We adopted Waylon, formerly known as Eggnog, 3 years ago in January. He never had an adjustment period, he knew he was home from day one. He’s become our fat sassy guy & we love him so much. He has a best friend named Poppy, who he torments & plays with in equal measure. He gives 'love' bites & head butts all the time."

"This is Dunkin. We adopted him around Christmas three years ago. He is such a character. He is always getting into mischief. Including jumping on the TV and crashing it to the floor, sitting on top of the fish tanks, and
chasing his tail in the bathtub which sounds like thunder. For this reason we lovingly call him Dammit Dunkin. He fits right into our quirky family and begrudgingly accepts our kisses and cuddles."

Thank you, Judy and Maynard, for this wonderful (and funny) update! Dunkin seems like a lovable and entertaining family member. Thank you for giving him the "purr-fect" home! 😻

Bryony
11 years young
spayed female
Super sweet and incredibly loving, Bryony is looking for a nice relaxing home environment to spend her golden years. Don't let Bryony's age fool you, she is just as spry and playful as a 5-year-old kitty and has lots of love left to give! Bryony is a SPEAK alumni who was originally adopted back in 2015 and spent years alongside her loving guardian who unfortunately passed away last year. Bryony came back to us with a broken heart, but her spirit never dimmed. After a short adjustment period Bryony is back to her normal perky self and is ready to settle down once again. Bryony can cohabitate with other cat friends but would be an amazing solo cat companion for an individual seeking companionship or a family with a low-key/relaxed home environment.

If you are interested in adopting Bryony or any of our adoptable cats or kittens, please complete our adoption application and send it in for review. Applications can be found on our website www.speakanimalhospital.org and completed forms may be submitted to our email: [email protected].
