Scout has done so well with learning when it's ok to play and when I want her to leave another dog alone. We want her to enjoy herself, but we also want other dogs to feel relaxed around her if they don't want to engage.

And of course Sampson is a very helpful participant.

This morning it was the perfect time to let Scout off leash with another dog. Since both Scout and Sampson can be intense players, I did not record their very first moments of interaction so I could fully concentrate on them and correct any nonsense if things weren't reciprocal.

I did correct Scout once in the beginning for attempting to put her head over Sampson's neck and once for attempting to put her paws over his back, from the side. These are behaviors that can cause a flight or fight response in some dogs. So that is always a non negotiable "no" from me. I don't allow dogs to settle things for themselves. Sampson did not have to stick up for himself because I did it for him.

Scout took the feedback very well and did not attempt it again. The chase was good enough for her and Sampson enjoyed her enthusiasm. At the end I recalled them both and they calmly chilled on the porch with me for a cool down. I'll be teaching his owners how to do this at home when Scout is too much for some of her canine housemates.

I am thrilled in her glow up! 🤩

I am super proud of this girl!

Miss Scout has learned what recall is, she is giving great eye contact, sits and waits at the door, and I am now able to call her off from being too excited around smaller animals. She lives with an older pet who isn't very appreciative of her enthusiasm so this is a must!

Good girl Scout! 🥳
