We are officially through our first month of daycare operations reopening and we are SO excited to introduce the first of our monthly daycare promotion themes: Back to School! 🍎🚍

Each week during the month of August, we will be offering a different daycare experience for your pup to enjoy that goes in with our back to school theme!

Each experience is $15 added onto the price of their daycare visit, but, if you act quickly, we are offering a prepay option for all 4 experiences at $50! The prepay special won't last long though! It will be gone by Friday, August 7th, so don't wait!

Our school schedule is as follows:

- Week 1: 8/3-8/7 - Picture day! Your pet will be sent home with a digital print of their back to school photobooth session and a custom pup-designed frame with their printed version! 📸

- Week 2: 8/10-8/14 - Time for class! Your pet will participate in Science (Bubble Paw-ty), Math (Puzzle Enrichment) and Gym (Agility Course) classes! 📝

- Week 3: 8/17-8/21 - Lunch time! Pups will be served (dog safe) PB&J sandwiches, carrot sticks and cookies. Then, pups will take a trip to the Paw-lastic Book Fair where they can pick out their favorite book and a toy to take home! 🍽📚

- Week 4: 8/24-8/28 - Don't forget to study! Your pup will participate in a 30 minute manners course with one of our "teachers" to put their skills to the test! Basic commands of 'sit', 'shake', 'wait' and 'lay down' will be covered, and your pup will be sent home with a report card and 'teacher's notes' covering how your pup did during their study session and some homework on how you can continue with their studies at home! 🎒

We promise, this will be as cute as you imagine it being! And we are SO excited to have a blast with your pups!

Dogs who are able to spend the whole week with us will also be included in our yearbook and each participant will receive their own copy at the end of the month to keep to remember the good ole' days! We promise, you don't want to miss this!

This weekend, we had the amazing opportunity to join The Health Wagon and Wise County Humane Society 501c3 Non Profit for another year of their Move Mountains Medical Mission (M7) free veterinary clinic! 💉 🐾

On Friday and Saturday, our team was on-site at the Wise County Fairgrounds from 7 AM to 5 PM, working alongside an incredible team of veterinary professionals.

Together, we helped provide hundreds of pets with FREE:
• Veterinary care
• Medications
• Vaccines
• Microchips
• Flea/tick treatments
• Supplemental literature
• Spay and neuter vouchers
• Pet Food

Our salon team was also thrilled to offer our own services, FREE of charge, including:
• Nail trims
• Ear cleaning
• Face, feet, and sanitary trimmings
• Treat bags
• Waste bag dispensers
• Educational consultations on the health benefits of consistent, professional grooming

To describe this event as a blessing would truly be an understatement. Our business was founded on the belief that access to quality, professional care should be as attainable as possible for every pet owner in our community and experiencing the sheer magnitude and impact of this event firsthand was absolutely life-changing.

Kaylyn even got to have an especially interesting conversation with Congressman Morgan Griffith on her beliefs that pet groomers should be required to withhold the same licensure and recertification process as veterinary offices and human hairstylist, as our industry serves as the center point of those two professions and have no specific standards of care to follow, making the industry very unstable and unsafe as it allows for even those with little to no experience or knowledge to represent the industry as a whole and puts the health, safety and lives of pets at stake... Another soap box many of you know she is quick to jump on when given the chance.

We are incredibly proud of our hardworking team, deeply grateful to The Health Wagon for letting us be a part of this mission, and so thankful for the wonderful community members we got to meet and serve. ❤️

WOW!! What an AMAZING day today has been! 🤩

Today Kaylyn and Josie completed:

• 179 nail trims
• 58 face, feet and sanitary trims
• and 62 ear cleanings!

It was so busy that we are almost certain we missed counting quite a few, especially after hearing that there were over 400 animals total that came through the drive thru to take advantage of the free vaccinations, microchipping, medication and veterinary care they had set up to offer today!

What an absolute blessing it has been to be able to give back to our community in this way. THIS is why we do what we do. 🩷🐾

We are so excited to be back tomorrow for day 2!

The noise is coming tonight, but you don't always need fancy calming treats or expensive gear to help your pup through it. Especially if you're pressed for time on the day of!

Here are 5 things you can do right now using items you probably have at home:

1. The DIY "Thundershirt" (The T-Shirt Trick) 👕

If your dog is anxious, snug pressure can help lower their heart rate.

How to do it: Grab an old, snug-fitting adult t-shirt. Put it on your dog backwards (their back legs go through the armholes, tail through the neck hole, or vice versa depending on size). Tie the excess fabric in a secure knot on their back or side so it hugs their torso snugly—just make sure it’s not restricting their breathing or movement!

2. Turn on a "Sound Buffer" 📺

Regular music might not drown out explosive booms, but specific frequencies can block them out.

How to do it: Turn on your TV or a speaker and blast a white noise fan, heavy classical music, or search "Dog Calming Music" on YouTube or Spotify. The key is to turn it up before the fireworks start to establish a baseline background sound.

3. The Bath Mat Safespace 🛁

Dogs naturally seek out small, dark, or insulated places when they are scared.

How to do it: Check your bathroom. Because bathrooms often have no windows and thick drywall, they are naturally more soundproof. Toss a few thick towels, a plush bath mat, or an unwashed piece of your clothing (your scent is a natural comfort) into the floor or the bathtub to make a cozy bunker.

4. Create a "Scavenger Hunt" Distraction 🐾

Keep their brain busy so it can't focus entirely on the noise outside.

How to do it: Take a few pieces of high-value kibble or smelly treats and wrap them up inside a rolled-up bath towel. Let your dog spend 20 minutes unrolling and sniffing out the treats. Smelling and foraging actively triggers a calming response in a dog's brain.

5. Frozen Peanut Butter Foil 🥄

Licking releases natural, soothing endorphins that lower stress.

How to do it: Take a spoon, smear a thin layer of dog-safe peanut butter (check for NO xylitol!) onto a sturdy rubber toy, a spoon, or even an ice cube tray, and pop it in the freezer for 15 minutes. Give it to them right as the neighborhood show begins.

📣 Quick Safety Reminder: Make sure your microchip info is up to date and keep collars with identifying tags on even inside tonight, just in case a sudden boom causes a door-darting attempt. If you don't have a tag, write your information on a piece of Duct Tape with permanent marker and wrap it around the collar to create a makeshift tag. ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry!

It is no secret that Family Crisis Support Services Inc. is a blessing to so, so many families in our area. But how truly amazing is it to have something like this available in our area?

Keeping families whole, even in times of crisis.. fur babies and all.

We are in tears. 🩷

Every new beginning starts with staying true to your mission.

Since 1982, Family Crisis Support Services has stood as the region’s domestic and sexual violence agency, providing safety, hope, and healing to thousands of survivors and their children across Southwest Virginia.

As we have grown over the past 43 years, one thing has never changed—our commitment to removing barriers that keep victims trapped in abusive situations.

Today, we’re excited to share another important milestone.

Construction is nearing completion on our Pet Shelter for Survivors, a project designed with one simple goal: ensuring no victim has to choose between their own safety and the safety of a beloved pet.

Research shows:

🐾 Nearly half of survivors with pets delay leaving an abusive relationship because they fear for their pet’s safety.
🐾 71% report their abuser threatened, harmed, or killed a pet as a means of control.
🐾 Yet, only about one in five domestic violence shelters nationwide can house pets.

Soon, Family Crisis Support Services will be among those changing that reality.

This new addition reflects who we’ve always been—a regional domestic and sexual violence agency that continues to evolve, listen, and respond to the real needs of survivors. Every kennel, every fence panel, and every thoughtful detail represents another barrier removed and another reason someone can say, “Today, I can leave.”

Because healing shouldn’t require leaving a member of your family behind.

Together, we’re building more than a shelter—we’re building hope.

TOMORROW IS THE DAY! ✨

Doggy Daycare is returning to Far Fetched PetQuarters! 🩷

We have been working very hard behind the scenes making sure everything is set and ready for tomorrow's big day and we can't wait to have some excited, happy pups come to play!

🐾 Daycare operation hours are 7AM-5PM, Monday through Friday.

🐾 Rabies, Bordetella, and DHPP vaccines are required to come play.

🐾 Half day visits of less than 5 hours are $15 and full day visits of 5+ hours are $25!

There is still availability for your pup to come be one of the first visitors of ours for our daycare reopening. Drop off your pup before work and come back to pick them up after they are nice and tired from a day of socialization, exercise and LOADS of cuddles!

This heatwave is going to make for a LOT of high energy pups who would love to run out some energy in our cool, air conditioned rubber floored playroom! ☀️
