Saturday is here and I have a long list of chicken-chores to do but all I want to do is look at beautiful birds!

This little black mottled pullet catches my eye every time I go in the coop-she is growing up nicely. She is in my a.v.a.i.l.a.b.l.e group at the moment------someone better snag her before I change my mind!

This heat is miserable!

I lost 2 roosters yesterday that were in quarantine because they wanted to fight each other from across the barn and both had a heart attack (they were perfectly fine the day before and had a huge fan directly on them with cold water). I am so over this! I hate losing birds! I always beat myself up about it. Could I have done more? Could I have prevented the death? I checked on them 3 times yesterday before going out the 4th time and finding them passed. Please pray for me-I am so sad! Not a good way to start the holiday weekend!

I know loss it a part of breeding birds but that doesn't mean I have to like it......

It is clucking hot in Western Kentucky this week and next-I was soaked with sweat doing my chicken chores yesterday evening and I lost one of the first nice Paint hen that I bought 2 year ago from Stonebrook Silkies . She was perfectly fine and stopped eating on Monday so I separated her. I found her passed away yesterday. This heat is horrible on them. I provide frozen treats. What do you do in this horrible heat with your babies?
