Time for the Baseline Personalities Update for the Phoebe and Buzz 2026 litter!
Please keep in mind that the following information is based on observations made in a controlled environment. These traits may change as the puppies grow and have different experiences in new environments.
Females: One spot open for discussion.
Flower – Miss Flower is the lightest puppy of the litter in color. She is very sweet and usually a think first puppy. Flower is one you can see processing what is going on around her and how she wants to proceed. Very smart girl. Flower has been one of the puppies that tends to get picked on by littermates and she would try to get away rather than stand up for herself. In the last few days she has really been learning how to hold her own. As a result, her confidence has been significantly improving. She still likes to keep her distance when the others are all piled up around me, but if there are less around, she will come in for attention and actually try to initiate play. Flower also does great during her one-on-one time. She will with you, on her own or just hang around watching what is going on. Flower also likes to climb in my lap to get petted and just loved on. As I mentioned she is super sweet. Definitely has an awesome on/off already. She has moments where she will play hard. She also usually stops to watch what the others are doing. I want to say lower to medium energy. She seems to equally enjoy the wings, bumpers and various toys. Flower could go so many directions.
Rainbow – Rainbow is one of the little firecrackers for the females. She is usually a jump right in kind of girl, but I have also seen her stop to think. Rainbow is usually a part of whatever is going on or leading a few puppies off on an adventure. She absolutely loves the wings and various toys. Rainbow is super curious and aware of what is going on around her. Rainbow is also very people focused. She likes to check in on her own and also comes when called. Rainbow is pretty persistent when she wants to get cuddles or just chill and watch the others while in my lap. Rainbow always checks in at the beginning of a play session and will then run off. Rainbow is very affectionate and loves her tummy rubs and will roll over on her own to get them. Rainbow is middle energy or at least has a solid on/off to her. She plays hard and gets after it. When she is doing that, I think higher energy. But she also takes breaks and outright enjoys just chilling out and being with even when full of energy. She has an awesome natural carry and occasionally will bring her trophies to me. She is the female that most looks like Phoebe. She is going to be a stunner!
Rose- Miss Rose is the smallest puppy of the litter and the darkest of the females. She is most definitely a think first little lady. She likes to take a moment to observe and then go head first into whatever shenanigans that are going on. She is super sweet and can also be super spunky! Rose is one of the puppies has been learning over the past week how to stand up for herself and then give it right back to who ever has tried to pick on her. She has a spicy side. She also is very cuddly and affectionate with people. Rose seems to really enjoy the wings, bumpers and various toys. She has a solid natural carry and will tote around a wing with her while she runs around and even just sit and hold it while she watches what her littermates are doing. Rose is not a puppy that will need or handle much for pressure when it comes to training style. She is pretty soft at the moment, but is getting bolder as she continues to stand up for herself from her siblings. She is middle with the energy level. When she is playing she does play hard. She just doesn’t tend to last as long as some of the others and she likes to take breaks to either observe or check in. Super adorable girl!
Violet- Miss Violet is the biggest of the females and she likes to go after whatever she wants. She is usually more of jump right in kind of girl. I have also seen her stop to think or watch. Violet really loves the wings and bumpers. She is one of the more tenacious girls and generally doesn’t give up when it comes to getting or keeping a wing from her siblings. Violet is often one of the leaders to go off investigating something new. She will also go off on her one, if something intriguing catches her eyes. For instance, she just had to climb the snow mountain the first time she saw it! The others went to the base of it, but she went straight up. I swear Violet enjoys a bit of a challenge. Even with her determination, Violet still has moments where she will pause to think. She seems higher in energy at times and then at other times I would say more moderate. Violet is also very people focused. She likes to interact and also get loved on. Sometimes she climbs in my lap and other times she will lay by my side. I definitely think she will need some sort of job, but I think she will also be an outstanding family companion too. Very nice, big girl!
Males: All reserved.
Black- Mr. Black is absolutely adorable! He is one of the smaller males, but he just stands out with his confidence, curiosity and sheer animated antics. This little boy makes me laugh all the time. He is currently in a fuzzy stage and looks like a ginger-colored bear cub to me. Black is very interactive and when he wants something, he goes for it! Mr. Black is more of a jump right in puppy, but I have also seen him think first too. He is probably a bit higher in the energy scale for this litter, but he is in no way close to some of the crazy high energy puppies I have had. Black absolutely loves the wings, bumpers and toys. He has an awesome natural carry and he is a strutter! When Black gets something from a littermate, he absolutely has to take a lap showing off what he has. Mr. Black is usually right in the middle of whatever is going on, but he also will go off to explore on his own for a bit. He doesn’t go far and seems to stay aware of where the people are. Mr. Black loves interaction and will go out of his way to try to initiate play with people. Mr. Black likes attention and getting loved on. I am actively working with him on his play drive and not grabbing my clothes. He is currently in a mouthy phase and likes to tug. I am doing my best to discourage the tugging of clothes and being so mouthy, all the while encouraging his love of interaction and his affectionate side. When I think of Black, it always pops in my head that this boy is going places!
Blaze – This beautiful boy is the lightest color male of the litter. He has currently won the top spot for size, just barley beating Howdy and Patriot. Blaze reminds me so much of his grandpa Phoenix. Not only in looks (other than in color), but in how he acts. Blaze is very people focused and loves attention. He prefers to check in at the beginning of all play sessions or adventure walks. He tends to be a jump right in boy and was one of the first puppies to escape their whelping box to come find people. He is very happy, interactive, observant and just plain smart. Blaze has a fiery side to him as well as super chill side to him. If he wants something he will try to get it. If he wants to explore, he will wander off. Thankfully he also comes when I call him. He has an amazing natural carry and definitely loves the wings, toys and various bumpers. Blaze has very nice natural on/off to him. He consistently climbs in my lap for loves sometime during each play session. Blaze will make an amazing hunting partner as well as a wonderful companion for family. I do suspect he will be on the larger side, just due to his bone structure alone. This beautiful boy has got it going on!
Blue – This beautiful little peanut of a boy is an eye catcher for sure! He is the smallest of the litter and one of the darkest in color. He is one of the boys that was consistently being picked on for a while. He is learning how to stand up for himself and as a result his confidence is growing every day. Mr. Blue has always been more of a think first boy and I think that is partly natural and partly due to having to figure out how to stand his grown. He is super sweet and just cuddles in when you pick him up. He tends to look around before deciding what he wants to do. When he does get going…yeah look out! Mr. Blue loves the wings and bumpers. He tends to get a wing or toy and then go off to play on his own. He has just started to want to play in an interactive way with his littermates. Sometimes he will also bring his wing or toy by my side. Not sure if this is his problem-solving way of keeping it away from his siblings or that he just enjoys being close. He is one of the lower energy puppies of the litter, but still has plenty of energy. I think Blue will be a puppy that will totally blossom once away from the litter with regard to his drive. He does great during his one-on-one time with me. I think Blue will be a fantastic hunter and companion!
Frost – Mr.Frost has always been a stand out puppy. Not just because of his white markings (aka his frosting), but for his consistently happy and out going nature. Frost has always been such a happy, lovey boy. His tail is almost always going. He seeks out people and will initiate play as well as cuddle sessions. He enjoys interacting with people and will just sit and look at you to make eye contact. He genuinely wants to connect. Frost is one of the puppies that will roll himself over for tummy rubs as well as gentle play with hands. Frost tends to jump right in when in a new environment or faced with a new obstacle. He also can be a problem solver. Frost loves the wings and various toys. I have lost track of the number of times he has brought his object over to me. Frost has an awesome natural on/off to him already. He plays hard, but he also can be calm even when full of energy. I would say he is solidly in the moderate energy category. I think this boy has so much potential to go pretty much any direction. Regarding his white markings, I personally have not seen this much before in any of my litters. I have from other reputable breeders. It is a throwback to the classic tuxedo markings of the St. Johns Water Dog that played a huge role in creating the Labrador Retriever breed. These types of markings can be hidden for generations in the genes. I have seen some white markings from my foundation line on the chest and toes over the years. Also, through some digging/researching have found some dogs in Buzz’s lineage that also have them. With both sides carrying them, the genes just came into play and were expressed on Frost.
Green- Mr. Green is a very thickly built boy that is an absolute hoot! He is another one of the super animated puppies of the litter. He will melt your heart and make you laugh at the same time. Hard to explain, but those that meet him will experience it and know what I am talking about. In general Mr. Green is always happy and very sweet. He loves people and goes well out of his way to interact. Mr. Green consistently brings wings and toys over to me. He will either climb in my lap or try to get me to play with him with whatever it is. He even pushed a wing onto the back of my hand in one of the videos of the males. Mr. Green wants that “good boy.” Mr. Green is a middle energy boy. He plays plenty hard, but he also checks in pretty often. I think he is a perfect split between think first or jump right in. I have seen him do both many times to the point it is hard to say he does one more than the other. Mr. Green eats up the lovies and rolls around so you can just love on him. I also should mention that despite how solid Green is, he is not a boss puppy. He really Isn’t the bottom either. Green may make some noise to tell the other stop if they try to get rough with him but he is not a fighter. He generally will try to get away rather than get into any conflicts with his siblings. He will tell them no and then move on. Green is a cool puppy that can go so many directions!
Howdy – Mr. Howdy is by far the top of this litter’s hierarchy. I affectionately call him “Mister I want it, I got it”. Howdy is extremely confident and tends to just jump right in in almost all situations. He just has this way about him that makes him stand out. If he wants something, he will go for it and usually doesn’t stop until he gets it. He has been learning to not be so rough with his littermates and even with being put in his place, his confidence is not shaken. This beautiful boy is also very happy in pretty much all situations too. He loves people and wants to interact. He loves the wings/toys/bumpers equally. Howdy will go off on his own and then automatically check in. He likes to climb in my lap for cuddles. Sometimes he needs to be tired to do this and other times he can be full of energy. Howdy is very well balanced all around. I do think he will need a job, but I also see him being fantastic as a companion in an active home when not working.
Patriot – Patriot is the darkest puppy of the litter and one of the bigger boys. He is one of the puppies lowest in the litter hierarchy, currently working his way up toward the middle. He was getting picked on so much for a bit that I was concerned. Something changed within the last few days and he is now starting to stand up for himself and making significant improvements in his confidence all around. Patriot is now starting to show real interest in the wings and toys. He has begun carrying them around, playing with his siblings and vying for those objects. He is a smart boy and I have observed problem solving tendencies on multiple occasions. For a while Patriot preferred to not play with his siblings. He would prefer to play either on his own or with people. His confidence with his siblings grows everyday. It was notable to me how he consistently was curious and confident on his own. So much so he was going off alone to explore new areas and objects. He is observant and curious. Patriot is not a fearful puppy, but he is a thinker. There is a difference. For a while I thought he was lower energy, but as he has been changing this past week, so has his energy level. He is getting more active all the time. Not like bouncing off the walls energy, but normal healthy puppy that wants to be into everything. Even when he is full of energy Patriot will sometimes sit and chill on the sides, come in for some loves or just go for a walk away from the group. Other times he will go toe to toe with another puppy to play for a while as well. Overall Patriot is very nice puppy all around and has all the potential in the world to be an amazing hunting dog and family companion.
