In honor of Clear the Shelters Month, kids can join the fun by "adopting" their own new friend and learn how real adoptions help animals in need! Join us at the Animal Rescue League of NH on August 14th from 1 pm-2:30 pm. Children will get a chance to meet and adopt a stuffed animal looking for their forever home! Other activities include an animal-themed story read by one of our Humane Educators, carrier decorating, beaded collar craft, and your child’s very own adoption certificate! You won’t want to miss this fun and interactive event!

Afterward, families are welcome to visit our adoption center to look at the many shelter residents! Registration is $15.00 per child. This event is designed for ages 3 years and older.

It’s Day 4 of International Dog Week, and today we’re featuring Mimi, a beautiful and shy girl who’s been with us for 145 days.

Mimi didn’t have the easiest start in life, so new things can be scary, but once she bonds with you, her love is gentle, loyal, and deeply rewarding. She’s the kind of dog who takes time to trust, but when she does, she’ll melt your heart.

Because of her sensitive nature:
- Mimi should be in a quiet, adult-only home
- She prefers to be the only pet

If you’re someone who understands the power of patience and kindness, Mimi might be the perfect companion for you. 📞 Call (603) 472-3647 and press 1 for adoptions to meet her.

Today, ARLNH was happy to welcome a volunteer from Crane Currency! Dalton generously spent a few hours cleaning up our dog-walking trails and clearing the entrances to make them more accessible.

These trails are used daily by staff and volunteers to give our dogs much-needed exercise and enrichment while they wait for their forever homes.

What may seem like a simple task truly makes a big impact on our day-to-day routines. Thank you, Dalton, for spending your time helping us. We’re so grateful for your support!

It’s Day 3 of International Dog Week, and today we’re shining the spotlight on a bright, happy boy...Sunny!

Sunny came to the Animal Rescue League of NH through no fault of his own, and he’s been winning hearts ever since. Friendly, affectionate, and full of personality, Sunny is ready to light up someone’s life.

Here’s what his Rovernight foster mom had to say:

“He is truly such a good dog!! SO well behaved! I didn’t know what to expect but he’s exceeded my expectations… He slept in bed with us half the night and then went into his crate on his own. He even hung out in the living room crate while my family was over. Amazing!”

Sunny is a bit of a bowling ball, his enthusiasm might knock over small children, so older kids would be best. He’s lived with other dogs before and may be open to a canine roommate again. Cats? We’re not sure yet!

This lovable guy is ready to be your sunshine. 📞 Call (603) 472-3647 and press 1 for adoptions to schedule a meet-and-greet.

It’s Day 2 of International Dog Week, and today we’re shining the spotlight on our resident royalty: Princess Hilda!

Hilda has been with the Animal Rescue League of NH for 701 days, and in that time, she’s gained quite the fan club. Her story has touched hearts, but she’s still waiting for her happily ever after.

Yes, she’s a Great Dane with a Danish name, and yes, she’s every bit as majestic as that sounds.

Despite being blind, Hilda is a big, goofy sweetheart who’s learning to navigate her world with courage and charm. Her past wasn’t easy, but she’s ready to fill her future with love, play, and plenty of cuddles.

Hilda’s favorite things?
- Romping in the yard
- Playing with her toys
- Giving kisses and soaking up affection

She’s looking for a quiet, adult-only home where she can be the only pet and stick to a steady routine. Experienced dog handlers would be a huge plus, Hilda’s still learning, and she thrives with structure and patience.

She may be blind, but she sees love clearly. Let’s help her find the home she deserves.

Today marks the start of International Dog Week, and we’re celebrating by spotlighting one of our shelter residents each day, starting with those who’ve been with us the longest.

Meet Leslie. She’s been at the Animal Rescue League of NH for 966 days. That’s right, Leslie’s basically staff at this point. In fact, she’s been “working” here longer than most of our team!

Leslie started off shy, head down, no eye contact, just trying to fly under the radar. But once she realized her coworkers weren’t so bad, her fun-loving side came out. Sure, she’s got quirks… but don’t we all?

Her job titles?

Puppy Manners Manager: Leslie helps new puppies adjust to shelter life. She’s not one to coddle, more of a “tough love” mentor. And it works. The puppies adore her.

Staff Vitamin D Supplier: If the sun’s out, Leslie’s outside. And if you’re her coworker? You’re outside too. She won’t budge until you’ve soaked up enough rays.

Leslie’s been working hard, and while the perks; room, board, and a solid medical plan (those allergies!) are pretty great, she’s ready to retire. And we don’t blame her.

Let’s help Leslie find her furever home. She’s earned it. 👉 Learn more about Leslie, visit https://www.rescueleague.org/dogs

Our Story

The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that helps more than 2,200 cats, dogs, and small animals each year. The ARLNH was founded in 1902 and incorporated in 1904. In 1942, the ARLNH's first shelter facility was opened in Goffstown in a renovated home. In 1998, we opened our new facility in Bedford.

Being more than a shelter, the ARLNH also employs one of only three shelter-based Animal Cruelty Investigators in the state. To help people who love their pets, but are currently struggling to care for them, the ARLNH offers community outreach programs, such as a Pet Food Pantry and Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinics.

Many of our services are open to all residents of NH, with focus on the local communities of Amherst, Auburn, Bedford, Brookline, Candia, Dunbarton, Francestown, Goffstown, Hollis, Hooksett, Litchfield, Londonderry, Lyndeborough, Manchester, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, New Boston, Peterborough, Wilton, and Windham.

The ARLNH receives no state or federal funding and is almost entirely dependent upon donations. Make a tax-deductible donation, and support us today!
