🧡 Meet Chester 🧡

Too often, this is what the parents of your pure bred dog looks like. 🥺

Chester is an extremely timid, 7 year old miniature poodle who was brought to BCHS by a Mennonite breeder. We were told that several vets were contacted to have him euthanized but nobody would do it because he wasn’t sick. Replaced by a younger dog, the breeder no longer had a use for little Chester. They couldn’t sell him. They couldn’t even give him away. Nobody wanted Chester! 😰

We couldn’t turn this sweet boy away!!

Chester’s mouth is an infected mess with a few remaining teeth. Eating is difficult. He only weighs 14 lbs. A local vet told us that he should weigh approximately 20 lbs. Chester also has an ear infection and a grade 1 heart murmur. The vet also told us that, even though we have papers showing that Chester is only 7, he would guess him to be over ten years old. He most likely looks this way because of being treated poorly.

Chester is not available for adoption at this time. He is scheduled to have his much needed dental done and would very much appreciate any help you could offer towards his procedure.

🩷 IT TAKES A VILLAGE, AND WHAT A VILLAGE WE HAVE!! 🩷

We at BCHS would like to express our extreme gratitude and a huge thank you to the Bedford County Court System and all Law Enforcement Officers who were involved in the Nyal and Renee Piper cruelty case along with the media outlets who kept the public informed and updated. We feel that justice has been served!

We would also like to thank the BCHS staff and Board of Directors, along with all the shelters and rescues that stepped up to help, and everyone who volunteered, donated, or just let us know you were thinking of us and saw us through to the end.

“Look for the positive” … as horrific as this entire ordeal was, there are some positives that we are thankful for.

First and foremost, all of the animals have been adopted and have wonderful homes! We have met so many incredible people who have adopted these precious animals!
The tremendous support we received from our community, not only from Bedford County, but from surrounding counties, both near and far. We even received responses from people across the country!

Our amazing volunteers! We have acquired some great volunteers who never would have become volunteers had it not been for our desperate plea for help because of this case. We have made many new friendships and alliances for which we are forever grateful.
Moving forward, this is something that we will never forget. These animals have left permanent pawprints in our hearts! It is our hope that the sentencing in this case will set a precedent that animal abuse will NOT be tolerated in Bedford County!
