Veterinary Assistant / Technician
We are seeking an organized, compassionate, and service-oriented veterinary technician to join our team. In this role, you will work directly with our animal patients, their owners, and our veterinary staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Bring animals back to the exam room and perform an initial evaluation of their health
• Handle basic care duties, including cleaning and dressing wounds, administering medication, collecting samples, and checking vitals
• Assist with diagnostic imaging and lab work, including blood tests and analysis of urine and f***l samples
• Aid the veterinarian during surgeries and other procedures by sterilizing tools, stocking the exam and operating rooms, and confirming that equipment is all working properly
• Care for animals by feeding and watering, cleaning rooms and cages, and watching for signs of health problems
• Communicate with owners and families to inform and educate them about animal conditions and proper care
• Update electronic patient files, review care plans, and handle other administrative duties as necessary
• Assist in cleaning the hospital including but not limited to: laundry, floors, taking out the trash, cleaning treatment areas, surgery, exam rooms, kennels, bathrooms and kitchen
Requirements and Qualifications
• Passion for working with animals and their owners
• Interpersonal communication skills to communicate with owners and other veterinary staff
• Ability to prioritize and manage numerous different patient needs at one time
• Attention to detail in order to maintain accurate patient records
• Willingness to take direction
• Physical ability to restrain larger pets when necessary
• Must be able to safely lift 40 pounds
• Basic math and writing skills
Assistants/Technicians must possess good critical thinking and problem-solving skills, compassion, a positive attitude, excellent communication skills and teamwork skills. Multi-tasking and accepting constructive criticism is essential. Punctuality is a must. This job description does not necessarily cover every task or duty that may be assigned.
