Alabama is here to let everyone know that we currently have THREE heartworm-positive dogs.

And yes, Alabama is one of them. Zazu and Josie are also members of this completely unwanted club.

The good news? All three have very different personalities, which means there's a foster or foster-to-adopt home out there for each of them.

Heartworm treatment requires several weeks of taking it easy, which is why foster homes are so important. Recovering in a kennel isn't exactly the relaxing recovery retreat we'd choose. And for anyone wondering, heartworm disease is not contagious to other pets in the home.

(Think of it as doctor-ordered couch time with a very cute roommate.)

Our girl East was brilliantly named after where she was found: near East Fork State Park.

East is starting fresh, and she’s very ready for what comes next.

She’s not the first dog to start her story out there, and she won’t be the last (but she’s determined to make sure her next chapter is much better written!). No more wandering alone.

In East’s version of life, parks are for fun with your people, not solo survival. Preferably with treats, a leash that leads somewhere good, and a family who knows she’s the star of the show.

East is a little over 1 year old and weighs 37lbs. If you’re ready to help East write a happier storyline, come meet her.
