Getting closer.

On April 19, Mexico’s National Service of Agro-Alimentary Health, Safety, and Quality (SENASICA) reported a new case of New World screwworm (NWS) in Nuevo León. The affected animal is a one-month-old calf, located approximately 62 miles from the Texas border. This is now the northernmost active NWS case in Mexico.

NWS is not in Texas, but livestock producers are encouraged to remain vigilant and take the necessary steps to prevent NWS infestations if the pest reaches our state. Learn more here: https://www.tahc.texas.gov/emergency/nws.html
