EVC's Pet of the Day: Felix!

Felix is a 3 year old Siberian kitty who came to us for his first appointment in May of 2022, as a seemingly healthy kitten experiencing abnormal episodes of vomiting. In 2023, everything seemed status quo, but this year, Felix's health status changed, and the vomiting returned. After multiple diagnostic tests and procedures, the medical team at EVC diagnosed him with FIP.

FIP, or Feline Infectious Peritonitis, is a potentially deadly infection from a mutated feline coronavirus. It is a highly contagious virus that tends to affect young cats but has been identified in older cats as well. It can affect many organ systems and can show up rapidly with signs of fever, lethargy, abdominal distension, GI upset, etc. Until recently, we did not have many treatment options and outcomes were poor, but we now have access to some medications from compounding pharmacies that provide a much higher survival rate.

Since being on this medication, Felix's quality of life has GREATLY improved and he is tolerating treatment very well! We are so happy that our persistence has lead to a diagnosis and effective treatment! We know that getting to a diagnosis can be a long, hard, frustrating process, but finding a solution is well worth the effort for our furry loved ones.

EVC's Pet of the Day: Orca!

Orca is a 2 and a half year old love bug who came in for a visit after her owner removed a tick from her- mom wanted a thorough check up as a result.

A little bit more about Orca's story:
Last year Orca, was hit by a car had emergency surgery in which her mouth had to be wired shut and a feeding tube placed. As a result, she had a head tilt and neurological issues.

FAST FORWARD to this year- she's living her best life with mom, with no residual effects! Here she is, hanging out with Dr. Scherping, checking out what Drew is doing in the hallway!
