We’re celebrating over 18 months without an emergency vet visit. 🎉
After two frightening emergencies, every healthy, ordinary day with Ellie feels worth celebrating.
Ellie means more to me than I could ever put into words.
Our first emergency happened after she accidentally swallowed the removable head of a peanut butter-covered spatula at the groomer.
We did not have an emergency plan. I searched “emergency vet near me,” and thankfully, VEG ER for Pets came up.
Ellie was evaluated immediately, and the team made me feel like part of her care. Even when she went under anesthesia so they could retrieve the spatula, I was allowed to remain beside her. She was never alone.
That experience showed me exactly where I wanted to go if Ellie ever had another emergency.
Unfortunately, that day came.
Ellie later became severely dehydrated while battling serious GI issues and an infection. She spent multiple nights receiving care as the team worked to manage everything happening at once.
This emergency was different.
At one point, I called Katie and told her she needed to come. We had a newborn at home, but I genuinely did not know whether Ellie would make it through the night.
Thankfully, she did.
The medical care was incredible, but being able to stay with Ellie mattered too. During one of the most frightening experiences of our lives, she was never without someone she knew and loved.
I hope you never need an emergency vet. But please know where you will go before an emergency happens. Whether it is VEG or another trusted emergency vet, having a plan can make an overwhelming moment a little less stressful.
