It's National Check the Chip Day!

Did you know that a microchip is only as helpful as the information connected to it? Even if your pet is microchipped, outdated contact information can make it difficult to reunite you if they ever get lost.

Take just a few minutes today to:
Confirm your pet is microchipped
Update your phone number, address, and emergency contacts
Make sure your registration is current

A collar and ID tag are important, but they can fall off. A registered microchip is a permanent form of identification that can help bring your furry family member home.

Not sure if your pet has a microchip or if it's still working? Stop by your veterinarian, a local animal shelter, or animal control facility, they can quickly scan your pet for a microchip, often at no cost.

Meet our next Kennelwood trainer, Kathryn Smith!

Kathryn’s journey into dog training began at fourteen when she rescued a dog with severe anxiety and fear challenges. Helping that dog gain confidence sparked a lasting passion for behavior and relationship based training.

She started at Kennelwood in customer service and day camp before attending Kennelwood Academy, where she gained hands-on experience in pet obedience, behavior modification, tracking, agility, competition obedience, and odor detection.

While every client’s goals are different, Kathryn’s purpose remains consistent. She focuses on building strong, healthy relationships between dogs and their families. Her approach extends beyond basic obedience to include enrichment, play, structure, and creating a balanced home environment that supports long term success.

Outside of work, Kathryn continues to develop her skills with her own dogs. Brooks, a German Shepherd, competes in protection sports and works toward advanced odor detection goals. Honey trains in AKC odor work while also enjoying life as a playful
companion.

They don't call it the “dog days of summer” for nothing. August heat is no joke, and your pup is feeling it too. A few reminders as the temperatures climb: Walk during early morning or evening hours. Always bring water, even for short outings. Watch for excessive panting or drooling. When in doubt, keep the fun indoors. Stay cool out there, Kennelwood family.
