Complete thorough physical exams save lives. This dog came to Baldwin Animal Hospital for vaccines and a mild hindlimb lameness. During his physical, Dr Saslow noted his belly felt abnormal and advised X-rays. The Xray showed a huge abdominal mass. He was scheduled for surgery the following morning and an 8 pound mass involving his spleen was removed. Had he not been carefully examined and the mass identified, he likely would have died in the near future when the mass ruptured, and he suffered catastrophic hemorrhage. His owner had no idea that he had a tickling time bomb since the dog was acting fine. Thoroughly physical exams save lives
