😂 Ah yes… winter freeloaders strike again.
Golden Cuckoo Marans know they’re gorgeous and they act accordingly. Those dark, speckly chocolate eggs are basically luxury goods, so the girls clearly decided they’re a seasonal item. Cold weather hits and suddenly it’s like, “Sorry, production is paused. Please enjoy looking at us instead.”
Totally normal, though. Shorter daylight + cold temps = their hormones hit snooze. Even good layers will take a winter break unless:
• they’re getting ~14–16 hours of light,
• they’re burning less energy staying warm,
• and they’re not mid-molt (which Marans love to do dramatically 🙄).
The upside? When they come back in spring, those eggs are usually extra dark and stunning, like they’ve been marinating all winter just to flex on you again.
Until then, they’re basically:
• eating your feed,
• judging you,
• and modeling their feathers like they’re earning rent.
Worth it though… because those eggs. 🐔 🥚🤎✨
