Last year I could not keep 🍳eating eggs on my counter or hatching eggs. This year seems so slow. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve had these beauties for 2 weeks now. So now they will be mixed in with eating eggs. Such a shame because they are stunning eggs. 🤎🥚

The OE are back crossed to my BCM rooster. The BCM are hitting it out of the park with the speckles.

Too bad the cold got to it before I did. It was cracked but still stunning.

Ohhh yes 😍👏
That’s exactly what happens when the genetics are on point. 🖤🤍🖤🤍

Those beards and muffs look full and fluffy (no weak, scraggly faces here), and that ermine coloring being clean and correct says a LOT about how selective the breeder is. You can just tell when birds come from a carefully curated line versus “pretty but random.”

You’re totally right—
good breeding =
• strong type
• correct color
• consistent traits
• and chicks that already look like they know they’re fancy 🐔✨🖤🤍

Honestly, it’s so satisfying seeing chicks hatched from your own eggs turn out this nice. That’s a proud moment. Anyone who raises Ameraucanas knows how hard it is to nail both type and color at the same time—and these are clearly hitting both.🖤🤍🐓

Chef’s kiss breeding right there 👌
If you end up posting pics, they’re definitely brag-worthy.

😂 Ah yes… winter freeloaders strike again.

Golden Cuckoo Marans know they’re gorgeous and they act accordingly. Those dark, speckly chocolate eggs are basically luxury goods, so the girls clearly decided they’re a seasonal item. Cold weather hits and suddenly it’s like, “Sorry, production is paused. Please enjoy looking at us instead.”

Totally normal, though. Shorter daylight + cold temps = their hormones hit snooze. Even good layers will take a winter break unless:
• they’re getting ~14–16 hours of light,
• they’re burning less energy staying warm,
• and they’re not mid-molt (which Marans love to do dramatically 🙄).

The upside? When they come back in spring, those eggs are usually extra dark and stunning, like they’ve been marinating all winter just to flex on you again.

Until then, they’re basically:
• eating your feed,
• judging you,
• and modeling their feathers like they’re earning rent.

Worth it though… because those eggs. 🐔 🥚🤎✨

Victory in the coop today 🥶🐔💙
After three long months of freeloading, one of my black Ameraucana hens FINALLY laid—and it was worth the wait. A beautiful blue egg, nice size too! I spotted it just in time and grabbed it before these frigid temps could freeze and crack it.
Nothing like sprinting to the coop in freezing weather for a perfect little blue reward. Welcome back to production, girl—you’re forgiven (for now). ❄️🥚💙
