Quentin Pupdate!!!
Look at how much better this sweet scabby boi is looking and feeling ❤️. Quentin still has some scabbing and hair loss but the improvement in his coat, personality, and life is amazing 😍🥲
Quentin is about 2 yrs old, 7 lbs, and is a chiwe**ie mix. With his skin almost all healed, he has his dental & neuter 7/23.
Quentin Is such a playful but sensitive lil dude. He loves toys, and is starting to play fetch. He loooooves squeaky toys. He will run around the yard with his toys throwing them and jumping and squeaking to his hearts content!
Quentin was the first boi of the mangey crew to come out of his shell, and did it really quickly, especially considering their background. He can still be shy with people at first and can be a little nervous at times, but is always next to his person, zooming, or cuddling his siblings. He is just such a happy boi!
Quentin is super curious, and can scale small puppy pens to be near you or to investigate. He has been working on potty training but still has an accident here and there.
Quentin was not made for apartment life because he is a biiiiig talker. And lil Quentin can get loud with his story telling. 🤣
Quentin would love a family who will just spend time loving him, and making him the best chi he can be! He does well with other dogs, and will cuddle humans and tinies alike!

Meet Xerxes!
Xerxes, aka choco weasel, is just the best little guy a chi lover could hope for! With his outgoing personality, super social behaviors, funny faces, and did we mention handsome 🥰. King 👑 Xerxes is probably more relatable to a jester than a king and will do anything he can to make his human smile 😁❤️.
Xerxes is a tiny boy at about 5.5 lbs, and estimated to be 6-10 years old. He came to us from New Braunfels after coming into their shelter as a stray. But Xerxes has thrived through his foster care with the shelter and his new foster fam! His coat is becoming softer, his ears are healing from scabs, and after a dental 🪥 his teefies are pearly white 🤍😁
Xerxes gets along great with all people and other small pups. He does well as part of a pack, but also seems like he would do well as an only dog as long as he is spoiled rotten 😛. He's been doing great with going potty outside, but we will see what he says about this rain lol.

Meet we**ie Winona!
Winona is a sweet little snuggle bug. She is a 5 year old 7ish pound chiwe**ie girl. We jokingly say that she is a weiner dog, but her left ear and 1/2 inch of her legs are Chihuahua 😂🤣. She has you read dachshund barrel chest, long body and face shape. But a smaller head and ears that try their best to stand up to hear you better!
Winona is such a sweet girl. She can be a bit jumpy the first few days as she is trying to figure out her surroundings and which person she can try to get food from. She gets along with other small and chill pups. But Winona's bread and butter is getting to snuggle wrapped in a blanket, right against her human ❤️😊
Winona is mainly potty trained, but can get distracted and forget to go potty outside if it's a gorgeous day outside lol. She just looooves to be a sweet chill girl, and appreciates a great baby snuggle with people she loves... And she loves everyone ❤️

Two people had to cut the cage open to rescue the puppies. This cage was hand made and the pups would have died if not for the people who stepped up and saved them.

On Lake Austin, we've seen a lot of potentially toxic algae at Jessica Hollis Park and at Emma Long Park. At Emma Long, we've mostly spotted the algae in and around the rocks near the boat dock. There continues to be little algae at Walsh Boat Ramp and little at any of our monitoring sites on Lady Bird Lake. Please note that harmful algae is likely to return at these sites as the summer progresses. Be cautious and treat all algae like it may be toxic. — information from the austintexas.gov website

Nate Pupdate!!
Nate aka Nate Dogg, Nater, Naterade, Nathan, has been doing so great since he came in with his body covered in scabs. Now with his skin inflammation calmed down, you can really see his adorable long chiwe**ie body! Nate is 2 yrs old and about 7 lbs ❤️
Nate Dogg is very playful, and really loves to play with other dogs. He will spend his day playing with his siblings, playing with toys, exploring the yard, and snuggling! Naterade loves to play and be with his friends but will also keep himself busy exploring the yard on his own when they’re done playing with him. Then, when he is tuckered out, Nathanboi will go to his kennel to curl up with whoever is napping ❤️💤. And to make Nate even more amazing, he is housebroken!
Nate has his dental and neuter scheduled 7/23 after he's had a little more time to heal. Nater Salad should be ready for adoption afterwards!

Meet Una!
Lil Una is a sweet young girl at 3 years old and is creeping her way up to 5 lbs.
This little thing was brought into the New Braunfels shelter as a stray, and no family stepped forward. Even worse, this sweet pup tested positive for heartworms 😭.
Una has started her doxy for her treatment, and spends her time being a stage 5 clinger to her humans. Una says there is no way she is letting her people out of her sight.. she doesn't care if you are in a pool, the toilet, another room, or walking to the car... Una will find you 😳👀.
Una will be spending the next 2 months with ACR as she gets her treatment done. She does have a potential adopter, but we will be accepting backup apps.

Wellllll.... MaryAnn said she's still on the market. She was excited about a potential family, but we learned that MaryAnn is not into bigger dogs. So unfortunately, since they already had 2 large pups, it wasn't going to be a match.

Re-meet Lucky Charm!
Lucky Charm has really earned his name! Lucky Charm was adopted from ACR in 2012, and went to what we thought was his forever home. But the other day, we received a call from the shelter, that LC was found abandoned in a storage unit. To LC's luck, his chip was still registered to ACR, so once we got the notice, we went in to scoop him up from the shelter the same day.
The owner of the storage unit was contacted by the shelter, but there was no response from them by the time we picked him up. So this Lucky Charm avoided spending any more time at the shelter, and got to spend the night in a warm comfy foster home! We don't have anymore information on the details of the storage unit, or how long he was there. We are just so hurt that a sweet baby would be left alone, and so lucky that the circumstances aligned to bring him back to us and to safety!
Lucky Charm is doing really well! He's a happy little dude 😎, he is now approximately 14, but doesn't act a day over 5 ❤️. He has a young spirit and loves to explore and cuddle. He is a thiccer boi at 9.9 pounds of pure squish! His vet check went well, and he is all caught up and ready to go! He has a mild heart murmur but nothing that requires medication or causes any issues. He is just a handsome floofy boi, and is now ready to find his people!

Our sweet Winston Mcwonkerton III is still waiting for that special family to come and fall in love with his sweet needy self ❤️
We have had Winston since last winter, and cannot be prouder of how he is thriving! For those just meeting Winston, he came to us with severe hydrocephalus, and was found in South Texas uncontrollably spinning in a parking lot.
His foster momma and veterinary team have taken him from an emaciated spinny nugget, to a strong, squishy, and loving little boy. His quality of life has been so vastly improved and he has even developed personality, communication, and preferences. He is on a few different medications, but he takes them with his bougie meals and loves to play with his food 😂❤️🥣. He is blind, but can tell vibrations and can hear loud noises.
Winston will still spin, especially when he is upset or the weather changes (weatherman Winnie) but he can now walk in straight lines and loves to try to find a tree outside to stand under. He loves to take naps outside, since it's gotten hotter, he has been enjoying p**ping outside less, but has taken up snoozing in the shade as his new favorite past time.
Winston will be a forever baby. Even though he is a little over a year old, his development was stunted by his hydrocephalus. But luckily he is able to communicate when he is unhappy, needs something, or needs his bedding changed.
Winston loves to snuggle, and will tell you when it's been too long since he was loved on. He also loves his chewy's and his sleepy boi mocktail, which helps him sleep through the night without getting the urge to spin. He hates baths, so we often compromise with a "spin cycle" in his baby pool to help clean his feet if he had an accident.
Winston is a special boi, and needs a special family who will just fall in love with such a perfect little baby like Winston.

LB has found her forever home! Her owners had lost their precious pup, and had waited for the perfect pup to come along to help make their family while again, and LB was just an immediate match! We couldn't be happier for this family and their future!

Hilda Pupdate!
Hilda is so much happier and stronger than when she arrived! She is her foster momma's favorite, and it's just so hard to put into words how special she is.
Hilda has some permanent damage from a slipped disc, but is just what we call an "as is" model. There is a chance she can continue to improve with PT, but she's really amazing even with her issues. Her mobility has greatly improved, she can get up puppy steps, but doesn't have enough control to go up a full flight of stairs. We refer to her walking as being a stumbling drunk. She doesn't even act like anything ever happened to her.
Because of the damage, she is incontinent. She can't really control her p**p, but once she gets in a routine, you can plan her p**ps during outside time, and walking around the yard will work the p**p out. Then it's easy to use a diaper on her during inside time to avoid dribbling.
She loves everyone and especially enjoys when there are puppies in the home. She is the house mom ❤️ and tries to groom/chew on everyone. Hilda will sit there and talk to you while you try to relax if she really wants something, so she's not afraid to speak her mind.
Everyone at the vet adores her, she talks to them all day when she’s there. She loves her vet friends so much! Hilda is a nervous traveler and can be nervous with new experiences, but is improving as she is getting more used to it!
She just wants to be near a kind person and be loved, and possibly have some young'uns to boss and play with 😜

Meet Sofia!
This lil mangey queen 👑 is going to have an amazing glow up, we can feel it in our bones. Queen Sofia is around 3 yrs old, 6.3 lbs. She comes to us from PVAS and the 5th pup from the same hoard as Poppy, Orion, Nate, and Quentin.
Sofia also has demodex mange, but should be ready for her forever home within a few weeks! Other than mange, she does have some bad dental plaque and needs her teefies cleaned 🦷🪥
Sofia is very timid, and will freeze when trying to hold her or around new people, so her foster momma is working to help get her socialized. She will still come up to you for scratches and belly rubs when she decides you are good people. She is just such a happy girl, but does get scared of new things, but thankfully she is still very curious. When Sofia gets ready to sleep, she turns into the sweetest little chi ball you have ever seen! She really loves cuddling, and even loves to cuddle her foster siblings ❤️😘

We're entering many pets' least favorite time of year - firework season.
Fireworks displays can be fun for humans but a source of anxiety and fear for our pets. The loud noises, bright flashes, and unfamiliar smells can be overwhelming for animals, causing them to panic or behave unpredictably.
Here are some essential tips to help keep your pets safe and calm during fireworks:
1. Keep your pet indoors: Even if your pet usually enjoys being outside or going places with you, it’s safer to keep them home and indoors when there might be fireworks.
2. Create a safe space: Close windows, draw curtains, and consider playing calming music or white noise to help drown out the sound of fireworks. Provide toys that can keep them engaged and distracted, such as puzzle feeders or chew toys.
3. Take safety precautions: Walk your dog during daylight hours, secure doors and windows, and use a leash when taking your dog out to potty at night even in a fenced yard.
4. Make sure your pet is microchipped and the info is up-to-date. This increases the chances of a quick reunion if the unthinkable happens and they do get lost.
By taking these precautions, you can help ensure that your pet remains safe and calm during fireworks displays. With a little planning and extra care, you can make fireworks nights a less stressful experience for your furry friends.

Meet Rio!
Rio is one of mama Lima Bean's babies! He is a little over 2 months old and is 💯 what a sweet pup should be ❤️. He is trying so hard to learn how to be a chi from his big foster brother, and has really been working on how to make it out the doggy door... but it's still a little high for his tiny lil leggies.
Rio is a pro puppy player, and is great at playing with others or entertaining himself with his favorite toy 🧸. He is such a funny boi to watch, like a little kid who looks up to his brother trying to walk around in their shoes.
And sweet little Rio doesn't know any strangers! He will be bffs with whoever crosses his path!

Meet Poppy!
Poppy comes to us from the South Texas hoard, and is in the best shape of the 5 pups we took in. She does have demodex mange, but has shampoo to help get rid of it and soothe her itchy skin. Poppy is about 7 lbs and 3-4 years old. Because she was in a hoarding situation with over 60 other pups she needs some TLC. Poppy has chunks missing from her ears that are healing up really well, and you can see tiny scars on each of her eyeballs from where her once long talons tore her eyes from constant itching. Thankfully it didn't cause permanent vision problems or eye damage, but those little spots show she once had ulcers that added to her previous pain and discomfort 😞😭
Poppy is sooooo sweet! She can be a little shy at first but oh so badly wants to be with people❤️🥹 Poppy gets along with other tiny dogs and plays well. She does well using p*e pads and going out to potty but she needs a little more time than others to go in the grass. It's been great for her to have foster pups to help teach her!
After settling in, Poppy has demanded to sleep in bed with her fosters and loves to get deep undercover and is like a teenager that doesn’t want to get up early😆😴⏰. We have been bathing her every other day and while she isn’t a fan, she isn’t too squirmy and just let's us take care of her. Poppy is a good eater and loves treats. She will still need some work with socialization with strangers as she wants to run and hide initially. But after some time she will quickly warm up and even give some kisses 😘

Meet MaryAnn!
MaryAnn is the sweetest 8-10 year-old chocolate lady! She weighs slightly over 6 pounds and would benefit from a little added weight.
MaryAnn loves all people and doggies her size but will give a larger (than her) dog a piece of her mind with her barks. MaryAnn is great on a harness/leash but prefers being carried like a queen! 👑💎 Although MaryAnn’s preferences are sleeping with her humans, she’s also content sleeping on a chair or doggie bed with blankies. Unfortunately, MaryAnn will likely be a toothless babe after her upcoming vet visit due to extreme tooth decay 🦷🪥😞 MaryAnn is currently fighting off a respiratory infection but is already perking up with medication and cheeky kisses!
MaryAnn is obsessed with people, and will just leech onto her human with hugs and snuggles, and will just melt against you. She loves all people, but is definitely extra flirty with men if they are around. Women, don't let that deter you from applying, because at the end of the day she will love her human with every inch of her little body!
