❤️ We all want our feline friends to be healthy and happy, but heartworm disease can be a major obstacle for cats. Unfortunately, no approved treatment exists for heartworm disease in cats, and management focuses on stabilizing the cat and closely monitoring their condition with frequent chest X-rays.

Steroids and antibiotics may be used to help address inflammation and infection, but the average survival time for heartworm-infected cats is only one and a half years. Stay vigilant and protect your cat's health by taking preventative measures!

You may have seen recent news stories about New World Screwworm cases being identified in Texas. New World Screwworm is the larval stage of a fly that lays eggs in open wounds. The larvae then feed on living tissue, causing wounds to become larger and more severe if left untreated. It can affect livestock, wildlife, and pets.

It has unfortunately made its way to Texas & we want our clients to be aware and know what signs to watch for! Recent confirmed cases have included cattle, a goat, and a dog in Texas and neighboring areas.

Please monitor your pets for:
🔍 Wounds that are getting **larger instead of smaller**
🩹 Wounds that are not healing as expected
👂 Severe ear infections or wounds around the ears

One of the best ways to help protect your pet is to keep them **up to date on flea prevention** and seek veterinary care promptly for any wounds or ear concerns.

If you notice a worsening wound or have concerns about your pet's ears, please give us a call. Early treatment and intervention are always best! ❤️🐶🐱
