Hey y'all, meet this inquisitive kid, Cricket! 🥰

Cricket came to see our amazing emergency team after he was found chewing on a plant that appeared to be Sago palm. 🌴 Sago palm is very toxic to dogs and cats. It can cause gastrointestinal issues, damage to the liver and very rarely affect the neurologic health of the pet. Since the effects of Sago palm could appear after a few hours or even after a few days, Cricket spent several days with our emergency team for testing and monitoring.

🙌 We are so happy that Cricket is back home and doing well with his family! Thank you to his pet parent for bringing him to see us! 😍

Rehab is always better with cheese! 🧀

Meet this sweet boy, Oliver! 🚨 He came to see our emergency team because he was not able to hold himself up. Our awesome emergency team assessed him and determined that it would be best for him to be transferred to our Neurology department.
🧠He saw our neurosurgeon, Dr. Passmore, for a consult and had an MRI. He was diagnosed with intervertebral disk herniation in his neck. This means that material from Oliver's intervertebral disks ruptured and were pressing on his spinal cord. When this happens, it can cause issues with walking and coordination. Dr. Passmore recommended ventral slot surgery to remove the material and correct these issues. In this video he is just 12 hours post-surgery and is already doing much better. 💪
Dr. Passmore is performing rehabilitative exercises here while Oliver enjoys a delicious treat. 🐶🧀

🥰We are so happy that Oliver is continuing to improve and already feeling like his old self again. Thank you to his mom for bringing him to see us! 🙌

Don't talk to Georgie while he's watching tv! 📺

🥶Georgie came to see our amazing emergency team after he was possibly stuck in a mini fridge. He is a curious boy, as you can tell from the video.😸

🤗One of the tools we can use to keep our patients comfortable, and calm is watching tv on an iPad. 🏠 Since many pets have tvs in their home, this can help them feel more at home with us.

Our emergency team stabilized and treated Georgie for this possible traumatic event. They also noticed that he had some nasal discharge, and they partnered with our internal medicine team. Our internal medicine team performed advanced imaging and were able to determine that he was suffering from an infection.

😻We are so glad that Georgie is back home and doing well! Thank you to his mom who brought him to see us! 🖥 We hope he is able to get a little "screen time" at home.

It's National Animal Poison Prevention Week! 😷

As an emergency hospital we often see cases where pets have ingested something they found in their home and became ill. 😞

Some of the things that can be found at home and can be poisonous to cats and dogs include:
😱 Chocolate
😱 Onions and Garlic
😱 Xylitol - Found in sugar free gum and some peanut butter.
😱 Alcohol

🫧 We had so much fun seeing Bubbles in our Neurology department! 🫧

After a full recovery from hemilaminectomy last summer, a surgical procedure used in dogs to treat slipped or herniated discs. Bubbles experienced another concern of back pain bringing him to our emergency department recently. After 2 weeks of medications, Dr. Passmore rechecked his exam to ensure he was still doing well and guided his family through a medical management plan.

🐶In Frenchies, like our sweet Bubbles, they are predisposed to disc herniations and sometimes experience multiple in their lifetime.

😍As you can see in the video, he is feeling much better! Here is Bubbles with his "Bubble Celebration" featuring our other neurologist, Dr. Hagler. 🥰

🙌Thanks to Bubbles' pet parents for bringing him to see us!

😻This handsome boy, Birmingham, came in to see our oncology team for a check-up.

🐾He is currently in remission from mediastinal large cell lymphoma. This type of lymphoma can affect organs in the cat's chest and can be very aggressive. He has been in remission for over 3 years! 🎉 He will keep checking in with Dr. Sheppard to make sure he stays in remission.

Thank you so much to Birmingham's mom for bringing him to see us! 🙌
