This poor pup has a severe case of mange, is emaciated, and so afraid of everything.

A wildlife rehabber, a wildlife biologist and multiple vets have all given us the green light to trap, that this is, in their opinion, a dog, not a coyote.

He desperately needs medical attention and a safe haven.

If you know us, you probably know Jude and you know what magical transformations can happen with a pup like this!

You: live in Austin, TX, have a safe place where he can be inside and separate from other pets (we promise this is easy and we’ll show you how!), a willingness to learn and work with us to rehab him.

✊ Today, Austin showed up for the dogs.

Community members, organization staff and volunteers, and animal advocates all came together to speak for those who can’t and request plainly that our city officials remove the current Chief Animal Services Officer.

Animal Advisory Committee vote of no confidence - June 2022 ✅

Third party audit, paid for by taxpayers, with poor results - Sept of 2023 ✅

Action taken by city leaders - Mayor, City Manager and/or Assistant City Manager to remove leadership and make a change? 🚫 (None as of May 2024)

The Austin Animal Welfare community FED UP & taking matters into our own hands to elicit change? ✅✊📣

🎉8 days later and this big lug is HOME SAFE!

Frankie first went missing from the yellow circle at the top on 4/21/24 and we had initial sightings at 1 & 2. (One the same day he went missing on the security cam photo attached. He ran far the first hour!)

Our tracking dog team went out and the square was their general area that they got the most hits. While they were out, Frankie’s dad met a neighbor who happened to have a camera in his yard, and he asked him to point it at the field if possible. He kindly obliged.

From there, we had Frankie’s dad flyer everywhere surrounding this green space. And you if you live in the area, you probably met him! He did AMAZING.

Finally on Saturday evening, we got a sighting from a home bordering the Veloway ( #3). From there, Frankie’s dad stayed out late that evening, attempting to lure him with scent, and then put a handbill under every single doormat that borders the Veloway!

We had bad storms on Sunday and no clues that day. We were heading out early Monday with the thermal drone and to set up a feeding station.

But Frankie had other plans! At around 6am, 4/29/24, that kind neighbor near the tracking dog’s area called and let his dad know that Frankie walked past the camera 15 minutes ago.
His dad rushed to the area with Frankie’s brother and once they were back in the field, they were able to lure him over!

Frankie went to the vet later that morning, and came home, promptly grabbed his red bone and went to sleep. He’s been napping his way through the week and his dad is overjoyed.

2. Flora & Rocky - Flora is a 10 mth old, female, 30 lb heeler mix - dog friendly, crate trained, healing from a leg injury, shy but warms up very quickly, only able to go on short walks
Rocky is 2 y/o, male chi mix , 10 lbs, dog friendly, crate trained, very skittish with new people, requires extra vigilance, high flight risk.

*Rocky and Flora are currently being fostered together and would do best in the temp foster together!

The most deserving happy ending we’ve had in a long time. 💙

After being in a severe car accident on Sunday 4/7/24 where the car went off the road down into the deep ravine below, Quin has been missing.

In one of the most emotional cases we’ve ever worked, and some of the most challenging terrain, we are overjoyed to announce that Quin is SAFE!

We got a clue on Q’s whereabouts on Tuesday night and then multiple on Wednesday which led us to where he’d been hiding. He had taken the most predictive pattern from the crash site — deep into the ravine, finding the creek and traveling along it until a hail storm spooked him up out of it.

During this, we were graciously granted access to every single property bordering the ravine as well as the Balcones Preserve.

We can’t thank the generous neighbors and Austin Water Wildlife Conservation enough for their kindness and patience during this week. They allowed our team to hike everywhere, fly drone after drone, use the tracking dogs, and set up various cameras and feeding stations. Hundreds and hundreds of flyers and posters were posted everywhere. This was an all-hours/all-day type of case.

Q’s family was so beyond dedicated that they even CAMPED OUT for the last several days and grilled in the evenings to try and lure Q back up again.

The terrain we were dealing with is unmaintained land and so many steep drops (1,000 ft+) and much of it fully inaccessible.

The days were long and optimism ebbed and flowed but knowing Q was alive kept everyone going.

Search efforts were migrating back into the ravine, when a Good Samaritan called that he had spotted Q laying up against the fence line of his property line far on the deeper side of the ravine! He was able to coax Q to him and we all rushed him to the ER for immediate eval.

8 days in the wilderness after a major car accident and our friends at VEG gave him an all-clear. Aside from a weight loss of 8 lbs and some sore muscles, Q, just like his brave mom, is going to be ok!😭🙏❤️‍🩹

‼️ONGOING ACTIVE CASE ALERT‼️

📍Austin, TX — 2222/City Park Rd/Westminster Glen Area

On Sunday, April 7th there was a severe car accident on City Park Rd and a vehicle went off the road into the treacherous ravine, part of the Balcones Preserve Wildlands.
Miraculously, the driver survived and is relatively physically unharmed. However, their beloved dog Quinn was in the vehicle and jumped out the windows.

Our team was contacted shortly after the crash and were on scene within hours and remained into the tonight with team members, signage, cameras, and multiple drone pilots flying until the wee hours and multiple rounds since.

Quinn is a 2y/o white shepherd/heeler mix wearing a red harness and a tie dye collar. He is extremely skittish already and will run if you attempt to interact with him in any way.

We’ve been working this case day and night since it occurred and while we understand that it’s been drawing a bit of public attention, we feel it’s important to remind everyone that while you may have the best intentions, this case is very complex and very sensitive. This is an extremely traumatic situation for the family and all involved.

We ask that you please respect that and:

🥹Would y’all just look at this transformation?

It’s little Ted’s big day! He moves out of his amazing foster dad’s home and into his new digs with his forever fam. 🏡

When the call first came in for Ted, a couple months back, we heard “emaciated bulldog, with his ears hacked off, covered in scars”. The photos that followed were heartbreaking. 💔

Ted’s foster dad gave him all the time and patience to heal and start to trust the world again. His anemia and skin infections have cleared up, he’s put on weight, and his coat has grown back beautifully. And he’s such a happy little tank.

Bill, an 8lb, white and tan, male chihuahua and former TRAPRS capture + foster is still missing!

We’ve been using every tool we have at our disposal from thermal drones to tracking dogs to good ol’ flyers and door-knocking, but we are still coming up short. 💔

Bill is so small and such a scaredy that he could be anywhere. One of the photos attached here (with 4 dogs in the image) is from when he was first dumped and then trapped by our team. You can see how small he is in scale with the rest of the world. 🥺

Have you been wanted to open your home to a dog but just don’t have the long-term time commitment that it needs?

Maybe you’ve been wanting a way to support our organization but can’t foster for months and manage medical care.

Well, we have the solution for you! ✅

Many of our fosters are long-term, which means that their foster parents need a break at times! Whether they have to travel for work, a family emergency or are going on a much-needed vacation, we are regularly in need of short term fosters for a week or two, sometimes even one day or a weekend.

Usually, we have been able to fulfill this need in-house – whether with a team member, or another regular long-term foster. But as we grow, so do our needs.💪

We have dogs of all sizes and all needs & we’re happy to work with what you can accommodate in your home. All supplies, including food, are provided & a team to support you during your short stint.

A rescue against all odds 🥹

In the hottest part of the summer last year, we received a call that immediately sounded beyond challenging. 😬

A ranch owner in Llano called us to tell us 3 super skittish emaciated puppies were dumped on his property… which was thousands of acres of rural land, much unmaintained.🤯

To add to the mess, we learned they all had been attacked by porcupines and their faces — noses and mouths were completely covered in quills. This was impeding their ability to eat or even drink water. 💔They were slowly starving to death.

With temps soaring over 105 degrees, the clock was against us. ⏰ Not to mention, it was an hour+ drive one-way from Austin.

48 hours and 3 round-trip ventures to and from Llano pulling all-nighters & our team was able to rescue all 3 and rush them to the emergency vet for care.👏

We named them Quinn, Asa, & Blue and they all went into our foster program. 💙💙💙

Fast-forward months later and lots of recovery time and love and we are so proud to announce that all 3 are now happily adopted into their forever homes.🥹🫶

Arguably one of the most jaw dropping physical transformations in TRAPRS history. 🤯

Jude🫶

In the fall of 2023, our team was sent the first image here as a plea for help for his stray dog.🥺

He’d been out for months and many just thought he was a mangey coyote & local business owners reportedly just shooed him away. 💔

Because of donations and support from our community, we don’t have to hesitate when jumping in at these sometimes jarring requests.🙏

An amazing selfless foster said “I’m in!” & the team set off to rescue sweet Jude.

He had a horrific case of sarcoptic mange, was anemic, emaciated and malnourished.

But with medicine, healthy food and supplements, patience, time, and lots of love —- just look at the new Jude!🥹

While our team has been utilizing every possible resource to try and find little Bill from searching and flyering to thermal drones to tracking dogs, we’re still waiting on a confirmed sighting.🙏

But in the meantime, Bill’s search has brought some magic to other pups that the team has rescued along the way.

There was a 4-pack of chihuahuas dumped in Pflugerville and while animal control contained 3, they couldn’t catch the super scaredy fourth. 🥺

Thankfully though, our team was in the area for Bill and was able to trap and rescue the lone wanderer. 👏

It’s not lost on us that little Bill was also dumped as a 4-pack the first time he was trapped by our team. ✨ We’ll take it as a sign of good luck.

And that’s not all — our team also caught and reunited “Justin” *another* little chihuahua running for his life in the area!

Bill’s case has now saved two more lives. 🫶

But it’s time to please come out, come out wherever you are little guy! 🙏🤞

❄️Texas + freezing temps = 🚫 not a match!

Our team is running around trying to help as many pups as we can while handling 192782 crisis calls. ☎️

When temps drop, the calls for stray support increase by the truckload and the panic in owners with lost dogs is through the roof. 😫

We are gathering emergency supplies for this next week - beds, blankets and anything waterproof would be so helpful!

Gently used or new and any size! We will be using these for street dogs, our fosters, and also passing some out to our unhoused community and their pets.

Our friends are kindly allowing us to use their building as a drop off zone.
