The National weather service has announced a heat advisory for the Denver Metro Area until Wednesday July 9th at 9 pm. They are expecting temps up to 102 degrees! A recent study by Cynthia M. Otto, DVM at University of Pennsylvania found that teaching a dog to dunk it's head is a very effective way to prevent heat stroke in dogs. Amazingly, they found that many dogs could be taught this life saving trick in 5 minutes! Here are two links on how to teach this trick to your dog and an article on other tips for pets when the weather is really hot!

We get asked every day about the importance of the vaccines we give and I receive reports almost every day about outbreaks of different diseases around the country. Here is a reminder why we recommend the Leptospira vaccine for every patient. This poor pup probably received the bacterial infection from drinking puddle water! We only recommend the vaccines that we determine are important for the health of your individual pet or the family that they live with.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia Tech released a heartwarming story of a dog recovering from Leptospirosis after receiving treatment at a Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Rex, a 10-year-old mix…

History of Altos

Our business was started in 1978 by Dr. Delio Tamayo and his wife Sandy. Dr. Tamayo decided to name it “Altos”, a Spanish word referring to the highlands that are Colorado. With Dr. Tamayo running the back, and Sandy taking care of reception, the two started a business that quickly became known in the area due to its compassion and high care standards that we strive to meet today.

Dr. Tamayo hired the talented and eager, Dr. Tamara White after she had recently moved into the Denver area in 2004 after getting her degree of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida. After working with Dr. White for a few years, Dr. Tamayo decided to retire and sold the clinic to Dr. White who happily accepted in 2009.

Since then, Dr. White and her husband Wayne have renovated the front of the clinic, giving reception and the lobby more space, as well as adding two new exam rooms for the care of patients. Within recent years there has also been the addition of the fenced in yard that allows for our patients to run around throughout the day. Now going on her eleventh year owning the clinic, Dr. White hopes to renovate the back of the hospital, to give her staff a more efficient and updated workspace.

Thanks to our amazing staff and wonderful doctors, here at Altos, we pride ourselves in being a friendly local business that offers thorough Health Care to all of our beloved furry household friends.
