We are so grateful to the Oakland branch of Modern Woodmen of America for their incredibly generous donation to KVHS! Their support included much-needed kitten supplies, small animal items, office essentials and more — all of which help keep our shelter running smoothly and our animals comfortable and cared for.

At 11 years old, this gentle wizard of a cat is ready to work his magic and make you fall in love. Although he’s on the quiet side, Merlin enjoys gentle scratches, soft baby talk, and a cozy lap to curl up in. 💞

Merlin came to us as a stray, so we’re not sure how much human contact he’s had before—but he’s making wonderful progress every day. Because he can be easily overwhelmed, we think he’d do best in a calm home, preferably with older children.

Important note: Merlin is FIV+, an autoimmune condition that can weaken his immune system. This means he must remain indoor-only and can only live with other FIV+ cats.

We’re kicking off the fun by introducing Elissa and Emily — two longtime friends of KVHS, champions for animals, and leaders of the pack when it comes to party planning.
These dynamic ladies are helping us make the very first Subaru Paw-Jama Party a night to remember — all while raising funds to support the animals who need us most. Their dedication to our mission is unmatched! 🐾❤️

A big thank you to George, who chose to celebrate his 11th birthday in the most generous way—by giving back to the animals at KVHS! 🐾

Instead of gifts, George asked for donations and brought in several much-needed items for our cats and dogs. 💛

Come meet Jill today 🐾❤️

This 2-year-old Rottweiler mix is a sweet, social girl who’s ready to meet her forever family. Jill is good with everyone she meets and is happy to meet other dogs (she just prefers slow, thoughtful introductions). She’s even okay with cats and loves kids of all ages!

Jill is a rough-and-tumble, happy-go-lucky pup who already knows “sit” and is eager to learn more. She could use a little leash training and would thrive with someone who enjoys teaching new tricks.

If you’re looking for a loyal friend who’s equal parts playful and loving, Jill is ready to meet you. 💛

This big hunk of hound has been with us since March, and he’s still holding out for the perfect forever family. 🩵

Homer is strong, stubborn, and very food motivated—your classic hound dog! He’s happiest when he’s outside following his nose, greeting new people, and living life to the fullest. He's got a big personality to match his big size, and he hasn’t quite realized he's not a lap dog.

Because of his strength and energy, we’re recommending Homer go to a home with rough-and-tumble kids who can handle a lovable oversized puppy. When it comes to other dogs, Homer prefers to be the boss. He may be open to meeting submissive, calm female dogs.

We know Homer’s special someone is out there. Could it be you?

What We Do

Since 1927 the Kennebec Valley Humane Society has provided shelter, food, and medical services to local animals in need. Our mission is to care for, protect and place animals for adoption in lifelong homes; to prevent cruelty to animals by educating our communities in the proper and humane care of all animals. Our vision is to end pet overpopulation and to advance the humane treatment of all animals.

Our organization runs solely off of donations from the community, grants, and adoption fees.
