Updated stud post for Weller! He continues to be such an amazing and easy dog. Weller is now 5 years old and is around 17lbs.
I’ve had several people inquire about puppies from him, but at this time there’s no immediate plans for pairings so I figured I’d post about him again. I’d love to see him paired with another small spitzy mix, or a small sighthound again!

To summarize, he is OFA Hips Good, with normal Patellas, Elbows, and basic Cardiac. CAER L normal R normal. Patellas, basic cardiac, and CAER exams were just updated.
He has also had PennHip done, his results were a left DI of 0.33 and a right DI of 0.36.

He does have one minor health concern; he and some siblings have had urinary crystals. It is something that his vets are not concerned with as it has not caused any clinical signs.
Aside from that he has been the picture of perfect health!
He’s amazing for all grooming and handling, including veterinary visits. He’s a favorite at the clinic I work at (we joke he’s the real reason I got hired), and any other clinics I’ve brought him to have commented on what a good dog he is.
Weller is an absolute social butterfly, everyone he meets is his new best friend! When he was younger he would enthusiastically play with every dog he met, as he ages he tends to prefer just sniffing around with new dogs. With known dogs he loves to play chase, but can get annoying with dogs that are faster than him(barking and more intense chasing/biting). With people he is a total sweetheart, he will jump into anyone’s lap/arms if they ask. He is calm and gentle with children.
In the house he is quiet, he will alert bark if he sees/or hears something outside and demand bark when teased but that’s pretty much it.
In the last year or so he has developed some mild noise aversion to gunshots/fireworks resulting in stress panting and wanting to be held. This is unusual as he used to be fine with them, but I suspect it has to do with living next to a makeshift shooting range and frequently having to hear assault weapons going off for sometimes over an hour. We’re working on counter conditioning with hopes he’ll return to his unbothered self.
He spends most days snoozing on the couch in between quick romps through the woods. He is always off leash and we don’t have a fence, without supervision he would wander but with supervision he sticks around just fine. We do occasional off leash hikes to the lake, he recently started going in the canoe with me and he does great! He is very much not a swimmer, and prefers to just get his feet wet.
He’s very athletic and loves to try new things. He is what I like to call a perfect “dog sports dabbler’s dog.” We’re very casual about sports and do them infrequently, but he always brings such enthusiasm and focus! He also has his intermediate trick dog title, he thinks trick training is so fun. He and his daughter have started bikejoring together and they do wonderful.
He is just easy. He’s the kind of dog I can pass the leash to my non-dog friend while I go do something and not worry at all. At home, in public, traveling, just easy.
