Waverly would like everyone to know that while she’s coping with leftover Thanksgiving snacks- the time is NOW for her to find her forever home. 💛

After being found skinny and caring for her puppies, this sweet mama has officially weaned her babies and is finally putting some weight back on. She’s strutting her stuff and learning to prioritize herself again — leftovers included.

Waverly loves people and would do wonderfully in most homes. She’s possibly cat friendly (she’s been around cats without issues, just hasn’t lived with one). She’s also fine with other dogs but prefers calmer companions who respect her personal space — she’s not into wild play sessions.

In the shelter she’s pretty chill, and we think she’ll shine even more once she gets comfortable in a home environment.

Waverly has come such a long way from being a skinny mama taking care of her kids.

Now it’s her turn. 💛We believe her perfect home is out there waiting on her.

What Does It Really Cost to Save a Life?
At CARE Humane Society, every pet who enters our doors is guaranteed shelter, nourishment, safety, and compassionate care — no matter their past or how long they remain with us. This lifesaving work is only possible because of the generosity of our community.
For Fiscal Year 2025–2026, our total operating budget is $1,403,100. Of that amount, 76% must be raised through donations and community support — meaning we rely on our supporters to help us raise $1,066,356 to continue providing essential services to the animals who need us most.
The cost of daily care adds up quickly:
🐶 Dogs: At an average of $31 per day, it costs $2,139 per day to care for all the dogs currently in our shelter. On average, our dogs stay 69 days, meaning it costs roughly $2,139 × 69 days per dog population.
🐱 Cats: At an average of $34 per day, it costs $1,054 per day to care for all of our cats, who stay on average 31 days.

Shirley may be a little shy at first, but deep down, she’s just waiting for the perfect lap to curl up in. She’s calm, curious, and absolutely adores cheek scratches and close company. Busy Day at CARE Humane Society! 🐾💛
Today we received 9 new intakes:
2 TNR cats
1 return to owner
And we celebrated 5 adoptions! 🎉 Congrats to Ellio, Ireland, Ashley, Grant, and Josie on finding their forever homes! 🏡💖
A quick reminder: we will be closed for adoptions tomorrow, but we’ll be back Sunday from 12–5 PM ready to help more pets find their families.
