Introducing.... Nora!!

Nora is new to CARE, and this petite little sweetheart is already stealing hearts! At just 1.5 years old and 39 pounds, she’s the perfect size, small enough to fit right in your lap, and trust us, that’s exactly where she wants to be.

Nora is a little shy when she first meets you, but once she feels comfortable, her sweet personality shines through. She absolutely loves hugs and will take every opportunity to climb into your lap, rest her head on your shoulder, and soak up all the love she can get.

She’s also dog-friendly and loves participating in playgroups, so she’s already showing us that she enjoys making new friends and having fun with her furry companions!

Nora did arrive at CARE heartworm positive, which means she’ll need to undergo heartworm treatment. But with the proper care and a little patience, she has so much life and love ahead of her — and we’d love nothing more than for her to have a family waiting for her on the other side of treatment.

This sweet girl deserves a soft place to land, a lap to curl up in, and someone who will show her just how wonderful life can be.

"I was looking for a dog at the time but wasn’t ready to fully adopt just yet. I walked into CARE with my friends to meet some potential fosters with them. But the second I saw her, I knew she was my soul dog. I chose to adopt, because every dog deserves a good home. Adopting my dog has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I couldn’t imagine my life without her, she truly is my best friend. I would recommend adopting to others, not just because of the lower cost than buying a dog from a breeder, it gives animals who have been neglected or have lived on the streets a chance at a better life. "

If you’re looking for the sweetest little shadow to follow you everywhere, Eleanor might just be your girl! 🥰

This affectionate kitten absolutely LOVES attention and believes there is no such thing as too many cuddles. Her favorite place to sleep? Right on top of you—especially when you’re trying to work. 😂 She has never met a lap she didn’t like!

Eleanor is also endlessly curious and wants to investigate everything around her. Her favorite activities include belly rubs, Churu treats, chasing her wand toy, and attempting to sneak inside the refrigerator whenever the door opens. 👀

With her gentle, loving personality and endless affection, Eleanor would make a wonderful addition to a family with kids. She’s ready to bring plenty of cuddles, curiosity, and kitten chaos into her forever home! 🐾💕

ADOPT KAI!!

This sweet social butterfly has been patiently waiting 53 days for his forever family to find him.

At just 4 months old, Kai has already spent far too much of his young life in a kennel/shelter environment. We don’t want him to grow up here, he deserves a loving home where he can be a kitten, play, explore, and most importantly, feel safe and loved.

Kai is great with other cats and is definitely a playful little guy! He loves to have fun and show off his kitten energy, but he also knows when it’s time to slow down, curl up, and enjoy some cuddles.

He’s got the perfect mix of playful + affectionate, and all he’s missing is someone to call his own.

Today, we had 2 intakes and 4 adoptions! 🎉 Congratulations to Steel, Patty, Messi, and Troop on finding their forever homes! 🏡💕

🎳🐾 BARK BOWL PRESENTS: STRIKES FOR STRAYS!

It’s time for Bark Bowl to hit the lanes! CARE Humane Society is going head-to-head with Athens Humane Society and Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter in a friendly fundraising competition — and we need YOUR help to come out on top!

The goal is simple: raise the most money, win the bragging rights, and help the most shelter pets! 🐶🐱 Every lane sponsored, every bowler who joins us, and every dollar raised brings us closer to victory while making a lifesaving difference for animals in our community.

And August is almost over, but there’s still time to be the reason a shelter pet gets one step closer to home. 💗🐾

Through the end of the month, you can choose a CARE shelter pet who has captured your heart and sponsor part—or all—of their adoption fee!

🐾 Champion — $175 covers the full adoption fee
💕 Defender — $100 covers the majority of the adoption fee
🐾 Protector — $75 covers half of the adoption fee

Getting pets spayed or neutered is an important part of responsible pet care—and it also helps reduce pet overpopulation in our community. CARE Humane Society is proud to help make these services more affordable and accessible for Lee County residents through several programs:

🐾 SNYP
For Lee County households with an annual income of $30,000 or less. Spay/neuter services may cost as little as $5.

🐾 SNYP+
For Lee County households with an annual income of up to $50,000. Cats and dogs can be spayed or neutered for just $15–$25.

🐾 TNR: Trap, Neuter & Return
Designed for outdoor, unowned, or feral community cats. There is no income requirement—Lee County residents who provide proof of residency with a utility bill can receive vouchers to have community cats spayed or neutered for just $15.
