Yesterday, these 7 to 8 week old spicy nuggets were outdoors, living feral life. Heading into the Fall and Winter as late season kittens with very little chance at surviving the cold winter weather. Their truly feral mother was tangled in netting, at risk of becoming prey for a larger animal or being stuck and starving or freezing to death.
Today, mom cat is free from the net she was tangled in and is spayed and vaccinated. After some recovery time she will be returned to her colony. She is a wild animal and making her a happy house kitty is not going to happen.
Today, instead of scavenging for food, the kittens are wrapped in a blanket on my lap eating licky treats. There is a comfy and secure bed ready for them with a big bowl of proper kitten food. Over the next few weeks, they will learn that humans aren't scary. That we bring treats and scratches. That we keep them safe. At 12 weeks old they will be neutered and matched to their forever person.
I want to give a major thank you to Strays Of Sunshine Community Page for doing the hard work of trapping these kittens and saving their mom from a certain death amd then setting her up for a better and healthier life by getting her spayed. I am so grateful to be trusted to take over the care of these kittens.
We are still looking for Hope Haven Heros who can donate money for vet bills and supplies for the care of all the kitties in our care. There is a donation page on our website. Https://hopehavenpetrescue.org.
We also want to share some of the love we get from our supporters with the wonderful people at Straysof Sunshine who do incredible work with the most vulnerable cats in our community. They could use some help. There are feral colonies across the state who need feeders and people to help with TNR efforts.
