Every dog that comes into my life gifts me a piece of their heart… even when they’re not “mine”. Saying goodbye isn’t easy, but sometimes it’s the right thing to do.

I had high hopes. His exuberance after being discharged from the hospital was short-lived. What seemed to be brighter days ahead vanished. Whatever it was that ailed him came back with a vengeance. He asked me for help yet again, and again I complied.

He passed peacefully at my home with K9 companions Theia and Daisy, his pseudo-gramma (my mom), myself, and the very caring hands of Dr Gwen. I spoke to him as he was falling asleep … reminding him of treasured friends and his favorite destinations…

My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to all those whose life he touched. Fly free my friend…

Baby steps.... Kaiser is still rather weak but improving daily. His appetite has increased yet remains on small portions every few hours. He's enjoying his short walks and fresh air with his companions… and sleeping like a puppy with his pack. He’ll be seeing his primary vet today to check his progress and we’ll be sure to keep you in the know…

Update on Kaiser
Kaiser was collected from the incredible and caring hands of Ocean State Veterinarian Hospital (OSVS) last night and is now resting comfortably with his K9 companions. We’re not “out of the woods” yet, but he has shown interest in his food, bringing me toys and even showing interest in Daisy… he’s tried mounting her, she said NO! His head is right where it should be, but his body is still recuperating. This isn’t going to be a quick fix.
Many MANY THANKS to everyone who has reached out to share caring words of encouragement, contributed to his GoFundMe and donated privately. There ARE really great and compassionate people in this world, and Kaiser is blessed to have ALL of you in his circle. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you again!

Rather than try to explain exactly what he has been through in the past couple of days, I’ve included his discharge summary from OSVS in the photos. Some people want all the details, so there you have it!

His veterinary care has totaled $3556.73 in a matter of 3 days between his primary care veterinarian and OSVS. Unexpected expenses such as these are all part of dog parenthood. Be prepared and think twice before making, what I believe to be, a lifelong obligation to man’s best friend

This is Kaiser. He is my friend. He’s asked for my help, and now I need help from MY friends.
He remains under the stellar care of Ocean State Veterinary Specialists. He’s suffered dramatic weight loss and has no interest in food at present. Tests continue trying to get to the bottom of what ails him.
I’ve covered his expenses thus far, and received a couple donations from others … THANK YOU!! … but I still need some financial help.
I’m uncomfortable asking anyone for financial assistance and have no expectations, but if each of my followers would consider donating as little as two dollars each, it would certainly help cover expenses that have occurred thus far.

* Bringing this post out of the vault, because it’s so important * 👇🏻

I think it’s common to think that when our dog is unruly, there is something wrong with them. 

Especially when we look around us and see perfectly behaved pups strolling happily down the street with their owners. 

But the truth is…

Everything your dog does is NORMAL. 

Chewing…

Digging…

Barking…

Pulling on the lead…

Lunging at other dogs or joggers…

Growling…

It’s all NORMAL. 

This is  a normal response for a predator (because that’s what dogs once were) that got plucked out of their natural environment and dropped onto your sofa. 

What’s not normal? 

Walking on a leash at a mind numbingly slow pace as you stare at your phone…

NOT chewing things, or mouthing you…

Holding a sit stay or a down stay as you chat to a friend…

NOT losing their mind around another dog. 

Sure selective breeding has curbed some of the more natural responses our dogs have…

But the truth is…

Your dog’s behavior is a NORMAL response to them trying to adapt to an environment that truthfully is NOT normal for them. 

So tell me…

What does that shift for you? 

Because your dog isn’t “Bad”. There’s nothing wrong with them. Everything they are doing is completely normal.

Our darling lovely Rita left for rainbow bridge today. She was warm and safe with me laying beside her. A belly full of chicken nuggets, sugar cookies, and cheese and her favorite song playing. I can only hope she was met by Paddington who showed her the way to the meadows where cheeseburgers grow on trees and bunnies are super slow and all her friends were waiting.

Rita was 14 with renal failure and a really bad back end towards the end. She was by far one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever had and I will miss her salted muzzle resting on my legs every night. I kept my promise to her, but my heart is broken. We love you sweet girl. So very much. See you again one day.

Kaisa… one of the nearly 4000 beagles rescued from a mass breeding facility during the summer of 2022, has made her way into our pack! Many of these dogs were initially bound for animal testing laboratories across the country. I’m honored to be involved and watch her transition. I celebrate her freedom… with grass underfoot and companions for play, she’s living the life of a real dog!

From pick-up to drop-off… THIS IS HOW WE DO IT! … recapturing an entire outing in 1 minute 24 seconds I’m often asked: “What exactly DO you DO”? For one, I follow my heart. My passion. Which is dogs… predominantly socialization and exercise for these guys. Rehabilitation and conditioning also play a very important role for some. A tired dog is a happy dog, so I build packs around certain personalities to ensure a great time is had by all. In my opinion, dogs need their friends just as much as human children do. I won’t jump on THAT soapbox just yet … that’s for another post! Enjoy your day. Celebrate your dog. Dogs will be dogs… if you let them. THIS … is how I prefer to “walk” dogs. Organize a pack of like-minded kids and you’ve got the opportunity for some great EXERCISE AND SOCIALIZATION… helping to create a happy and well mannered pet at home. I don’t usually post videos of this duration, but it was just too good not to share the whole thing! Enjoy!

Good morning! You’re invited to join me on a walk with Rudy and Harry and Little Bear and Cabella and Fenway and Mazy and Flickr and Buddy and Gracie and Daisy… pump-up the volume for the kids at home!

Even though Mazy tries to demonstrate, my belief that the “dog paddle” comes naturally is unfounded when it comes to Chanel.

Malachi is 18. His mobility is a bit compromised at this age. Is there anything better than a swim? His buoyancy reduces stress on his joints yet still encourages great exercise. And he gets the thrill of trying to catch his splashes! All the while, Daisy Mae plays the role of “The Temptress”.

okay, so I had to really think about this before I write. This k9 one on one is anything but. The dogs travel in a large pack and are off leash that I have seen on multiple occasions. Their at my neighbors all the time even though the business is in another town. They wander about the neighborhood off leash and sometimes he doesn't even know their gone. One hot day my neighbor who is an elderly woman was left to the task of babysitting his k9 one on one dogs and he wound up in my yard hot, hungry and thirsty. I didn't know she was babysitting the k9 one on one dogs so I called the numbers on the tag one was from Ct. the other from TN. The owner had no idea of course. I knew it was a matter of time before something happen and tonight one of the dogs got hit by a car. The women and her husband stopped and they felt horrible. Once they left I tried to talk to him about the dogs being loose all the time running all over and as I was speaking to him another one of his dogs came running from behind the house. So sad that these dogs are being entrusted to this man who seems to me to be exactly the opposite.

We have a kennel with Malamute dogs very friskey and they want to run run all the time .. very hard to control these dogs ,,,,, they are wild to the day they are born ... different maybe from the day they are born ,,,they want to run ,,,, and can.t walk them ... them want to run ....always ,,,,,,,could
