FOUR DAYS! That's all the time that remains on the clock.

Let me explain something about animal control that many may not be aware of. Municipal shelters on average have somewhere around (20) cages, give or take for dogs.

We are responsible for taking in dogs found loose on the street, dogs needing to be seized out of homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment.

When there are stray dogs, we don't have the option to say we won't be helping that dog due to behavioral issues, health issues etc. We also don't have the option to say we're going to leave that dog on the street due to lack of cage space.

Every day, every hour, every minute we never know what we're going to face. Each cage that you fill, leaves you more anxious as to what is around the corner.

Once a dog comes in, you have to expect that right from the start if that dog is not reclaimed, you're looking at weeks to a month wait to get the vetting appointments necessary to get that animal eligible for adoption. If a dog comes in with behavioral issues, there's no telling how long it will take for them to come around, you just hope that they do.

Here in Central Falls, the city has no animal shelter, instead of the average (20) cages shelters have, we rent (5) cages through the Pawtucket Animal Shelter. It's rare that that shelter stays under having (20) dogs at any time. There have been multiple occasions where the shelter has been full due to hoardings.

I imagine cities/towns that have lower call volume has the ability every now and again to take in an owned surrender if they choose to do so, but it's not the role animal control carries.

Southern shelters run differently than we do in the northeast. They DO take in owned surrenders, they DO leave strays wandering loose when they're full, they DO euthanize for space regularly. Usually the first to be euthanized are the dogs that have been at the shelter the longest, owned surrenders and bully breeds.

In four days if this dog does not find a foster through the Rhode Home Rescue, her family will have to make a serious decision.

In four days, I also have the ability to make a decision regarding the fate of this dog. If I were to take her in at the shelter and use one of the (5) cages, if I were to get full, which is completely possible, where in full swing of the summer still, then I would be forced to make the same decision that a southern ACO is forced to make regularly.

Open your eyes to what was allowed to happen in this state, Rhode Islanders! Welcome to southern rescue in the Northeast!

If you can help Cayenne Pepper, she's (3) years old. Gets along with kids. She has no vetting at the moment, so she would require being the only pet in the home. Must live in Rhode Island. Apply to foster through Rhode Home Rescue.

Curtiosy post- URGENT foster needed.
Please read and share!
Sharing is a big help to expose this girl and hopefully find a foster in RI soon.

I'm going to give it my best to do a longer post at some point hopefully later today or sometime tomorrow. As I've posted previously, I am on my days off but continue to work through them trying to give this dog a chance of getting out of this horrible situation. Time is working against me and i'm balancing a whole lot at once.

This is Cayenne Pepper. She's (3) years old, was originally from South Carolina and was brought here as a small puppy. She has no current vetting. I'm told she was seen by a vet back in South Carolina prior to coming here but obviously that doesn't help at this time.

She's been living alone in an apartment since May and being cared for each day by family. The apartment where this dog is living is in the eviction process. All rescues in Rhode Island that have been contacted are at capacity. A rescue has committed to taking this dog but that will only happen if a foster comes forward.

Due to this dog having no current vetting, the rescue needs for the foster to have no current dog or cat in the home. The foster must also live in Rhode Island. You must have transportation because you must be able to take the dog to her vet appointments. The rescue pays for the appointment but you must get her there, as well as to adoption events.

This is week tough choices might need to be made from the family if this dog has nowhere to go. This dog may fall victim to state overcrowding, something we've watched happen right before all of our eyes. I'm doing all I can to see that that doesn't happen, but the truth is in this moment, i'm failing!

If you live in Rhode Island and have no current cat or dog in the home, please apply to foster through Rhode Home Rescue! The clock is ticking, is anybody out there? ๐Ÿ™

( Side note: I've been begging to get this dog's story to go viral to give her the best chance of getting out of this situation. It's just not happening for her. Feeling at a loss, grant me a miracle ๐Ÿ™).

Good morning! We are in for a hot one today and tomorrow with a heat advisory being present. Iโ€™m starting earlier and attempting to beat the heat with my furry squad!
Please be sure to keep your furr babies safe!
Limit walks, shade over direct sun, earlier starts, water breaks, and mental stimulation is best for these days! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

RAIN CHECK with a few furry friends, featuring my โ€œlab girlsโ€ Floria and Rosie! ๐Ÿพ

I often am asked if I work in this type of weather?
Absolutely!
Potty breaks are still needed, and who doesnโ€™t love indoor plays with a side of belly rubs?! โค๏ธ

Now, for clients who are home, I typically do reschedule for a better weather day.
This ensures the dog exercise and outdoor enrichment will continue for the dogs! ๐Ÿพ

For those who are potty dependent, hereโ€™s a sneak peak of behind the scenes!
The more mudd, the more fun according to these 2!
